I'm looking at the possibility of getting a Sig P226 .22LR pistol. Unfortunately mag will not lock the slide back after the last shot has been fired. Are there any aftermarket magazines that will lock the slide back after the last shot has been fired?

If there are please advise - links and/or a Canadian distributor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Short answer, no their aren't. But you can purchase different mag followers that will hold the slide open after the last shot from Sigpower. This is the only solution. Many people on the Canadiangunnutz forums have ordered from their with no problems. I have a Sig P226 Classic .22LR as well but I just deal with it and try to count my shots.

I'll look into the SigPower followers. Thanks.

i should point out, like i always do, the sig power followers dont engage the slide lock, they just have extra material on them so the slide literally jams on its way forward

If it provides a physical indication that the magazine is empty, prevents a dry fire, and it doesn't damage the slide, its a workable solution. If it's true that there are no other solution, IMHO it's better than the stock Sig offering. Shame on Sig for such a poor design.

This may be a stupid question, but I'll risk it: If the follower jams the slide in the open position, are there issues ejecting the mag? Wouldn't pressure on the follower stop the mag from ejecting without waggling the slide a little?

Makes sense to me.
Probably have to pull slide back a little further and lock it manually.
Then remove clip.

I can confirm this, as I have sigpower followers in both of my classic .22 mags
Yes you do need to physically pull the slide back slightly and then engage the slide stop manually. The tension on the follower from the slide prevents the mag from dropping free on it's own. A good way to remedy this is to only use one sigpower follower, that way you can still practice mag changes, just make sure you use the mag without the sigpower follower in it first.
Works for me ymmv.
Cheers

^^ This.

The operation sequence then becomes identical to the centerfire equivalent.

(I'd rather the mag drop free than have the slide lock back)

Racking the slide on a reload rather than flicking the slide release is arguably the better practice.

Counting shots is not such a bad idea also.

Im no expert, but I'll share the info I recieved at the range this summer as far as my sig .22 classic.

The upper is aluminum as you know, and if you were to use the normal slide catch, it would damage the softer metal over time. I've heard of a few .22 pistols that have figured out how to cycle the heavier steel uppers with a .22 round, but sig has not.

I'm sure about how to solve this issue, but at least now you have a better idea as to why.

any good solutions, I'd love a pm.
