Here is a pic of an aluminum base plate and a magwell for a 226. Available through roco in the states.

Ive got these posted in the ee.

Do you mean this kind of thing.... full-size metal body vs. the "half-body" SIG mag type of thing that we are all so familiar with in Canada?

These are magazines for the SIG 228/229. The one on the left is pinned to 10. The one on the right is the one that everyone is familiar with.

In Canada we have made possession of high capacity (more than 10 round) pistol magazines a criminal offence. That is, you commit an actual Criminal Code offence merely by having it in your possession (knowledge of, a measure of control over).

In the U.S., during the "Clinton ban" (the AWB), what was prohibited was what you could sell, not what you could possess. So, in order for the law to have any impact on anything, you would have to find a way to have mags that could not simply be converted back to high-cap by the user. Hence the kind of mags you commonly see for the GLOCK 17/19/22/23, and these SIG mags where damn near a third of the mag is just a hollow plastic shell. These mags are still around because of California and some of the other areas of the U.S. that have mag restrictions.

You can get 10/15 SIG mags (or 10/whatever) in Canada, but the distributor doesn't bring them in - so they are not really all that common except among older pistols, and magazines that made their way in through channels other than the distributor.

I have two full body SIG mags that came with my SIG 228 which was imported by Questar. They were pinned here in Canada by Questar (as far as I know), and they did a very nice job with them.

Why the SIG ones are rare and others like GLOCK are so commonly available on the EE and whatnot... I really don't know the answer to that.

One word of legal advice (yes I am a lawyer): do not under any circumstances try and import high capacity magazines to Canada with the intention of pinning them. You will, in all likelihood, bring massive grief, the loss of all your firearms, and criminal convictions upon yourself.

Businesses like Marstar, Wolverine, Questar, etc. (and hundreds of others) have firearms business licences which allow them to possess prohibited devices like high-capacity magazines. They import mags, pin them according to the regulations the government has set out, and then sell them to the public as legal items. This is not something that you can get a personal licence to do for yourself - no matter what it says on the back of your PAL.

My current advice to people is not to import any "pinned" high-capacity magazines or "magazine bodies" for high capacity magazines. This issue (particularly the second issue) is the subject of an ongoing appeal here in British Columbia. Until this is cleared up, it is just way too risky to be ordering this kind of thing from Brownells (or where ever) and hoping it all works out. "Risk" should not be in your vocabulary when it comes to firearms, the Canada Border Services Agency, and the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team. believe me, I have seen the damage caused to people's lives first hand from the cases I have worked on.

So, long story short.... if you want full length high-capacity SIG mags pinned to 10 rounds.... contact one of the site sponsors (some place that has a firearms business licence which allows them to do these things) and get them to do it for you. They may charge you a premium, but it is the only safe way to do it.

Do we have any retailer who carries steel recoil spring guide rod to replace the polymer ones that currently come with new sig sauer pistols?-I did find some places down south that sell'em but just wondering if they are readily available in Canada as well.
