SIG P226 9mm Not Going Into Battery

Brand new P226 with less then 300 rounds will not go into battery after inserting a new mag and using the slide catch to release the slide. Looks as if the bullet is hanging up halfway up the feed ramp. This happened 3 times. After tapping the slide with my hand it went into battery and I had no problems with cycling. Any ideas or suggestions?

A few questions:

1. Does the same problem occur if you "slingshot" the slide?
2. What kind of ammo are you shooting?
3. Are you using Sig factory mags?
 
Mag could possibly sit too high or low; feed ramp dirty; faulty recoil spring; 300rds-you may still be in the break-in stage; a bone dry pistol (not lubed);

Use trial and error to see what the problem is. Are you using Checkmate or MecGar mags (Sig)? Do you have a .40 or 9?
 
Any chance these are reloads, with not enough crimp? I've had issues similar to this in the past. Adding a little extra crimp solved it for me. If its factory, then I'd clean the follower in the mag. Do you have multiple mags and are they exhibiting the same feed issue? As Capp325 said, try "slingshot" and see if its still occurs.
 
It was Winchester 115 grain that did not feed and it happened with a few different mags all SIG. Once it went into battery, it never failed to cycle and locked open on the last round.
 
How new of a box is the winchester? They had an issue a few years back where there had seating depth issues on some of their 9mm. You would line up the bullets and it'd look like a xylophone.
 
Maybe it needs a good break in period of 500 or more rounds, make sure the mag is seated all the way in as well. I have seen that happen with other new guns, like beretta.
 
When you load your mags, is the tenth round a really tight squeeze to get in there? This could cause just enough extra drag that the slide doesn't fully close when using the slide release. Your mags may need to break in and loosen up a little. Has never happened with my Sig, but I have had it happen with other pistols before.
As suggested, try "sling shotting" the slide to see if it still happens.
