I know a lot of you on these boards own a P226 9mm so what type of ammo does it like best? Anything to stay away from?

I feed mine mostly the Wichester White Box loads and they works great. I have also tried American Eagle? and it worked fine too.

+1 for the Winchester white box stuff. I shoot 147gr Jacketed Hollow Point. Not one problem feeding. Plus the "for personal protection" printed on the box just looks cool.
Hoddie.

Depends on what you're doing with it. They will work with most common 9mm Para loads. Which is the one of the reasons people buy them.

My personal favourites for general practice are either Geco 124gr FMJ in the blue and black boxes (a similar but hotter load is used at the factory in Germany to test the guns) or the 115gr TMJ CCI-Blazer load, #3509 is also very accurate and very inexpensive. Much better (i.e. consistent and cleaner) than Remington, Winchester USA or American Eagle.

For self-defence, when I lived in the US I used to use Federal 124gr JHP +P+ Hydra-Shok, but never having shot anyone with it, I can't comment on how good it is.
