SIG P226 and the Norinco clone.

Just wondering if anyone thinks there is a big differance between the real p226 and the norinco clone? I have been told there is not much difference between the two but I am still skeptical. Thoughts?

Search function is a good thing to use.

My opinion, I wouldn't buy the original SIG, for how close the nork is Id rather spend the extra cash on ammo. I got the E2 grips for mine and the factory SIG Sauer parts were ROUGHER then the Norinco parts. Pretty well everything is interchangeable except the grip screws and sights.

I will not be using this for competition or anything, just to practice for work courses. does it shoot/ handle close to the real 226?

Yeah, it feels the same as a real SIG Sauer but not as nice finish and the plastic grips they come with suck. But you can get real SIG grips for it.

I would suggest swapping the springs for either factory SIG springs or Wolff springs. The nork ones are sometimes very heavy.

^^^ what he said, get a new wolff mainspring (about $5) and use the other 500+ bucks you saved to buy more ammo or a press. Of course if you have lots of disposable income just get the real thing

If you're going to shoot the crap out of it and not care too much about admiring/looking at it too often, then the Norc will "do the job". However, if you're like me, that appreciate good craftsmanship and owning "the real thing", then the extra money is well worth it - the cost difference between a clone and a genuine gun is NOTHING, once you spread out the cost over the amount of time you'll end up owning it plus the cost of ammo combined.

I have nothing against Norincos as I understand the value of cloned guns that shoot and operate just as well as the original, but for me, I'd rather save up the extra money and buy the real thing - I didn't grow up dreaming about owning a Norinco XYZType2395 so owning those will never fulfill my childhood dreams.

That's just me, YMMV.

I have a 226 E2 and 229 elite.. i also have the norc 226.. i've had the norc just as long as the E2.. I hate the norc.. on SA it's acceptable.. DA sucks..

feels closer to like 60% of the real thing.. I really dont like shooting it at all..but hey its like 1/4 the price so it's a good value for what you get.. just keep in mind you're not paying much

If you're going to buy a gun, get the original not some lookalike.
What does the Norinco do besides look the same?
Aren't Sigs known for their great triggers? Does the Norinco copy that?

To me a fake Sig is like a fake Rolex but hey that's just me.

But a used and rebuilt German Sig is a much nicer gun than a Norinco copy...and the mags are actual Sig mags, not the garbage Chinese mags. This isn't a big deal with 1911s where mags are relatively cheap and easy to come by but with $50-60 Sig mags it really matters.

I bought a German sig recently with minimal holster wear and that's it...internals are mint (not surprising on the CPO guns) with 4 Mec-Gar mags for under $600.

Figure that buying a Nork + 4 quality mags would cost you $550+tax, assuming the mags were $50 each and shipped for free...often the mags are closer to $60 and may not ship from the same supplier as the pistol so could word out to more like $75 once you figure in taxes and shipping...so $300 in mags and $400+ for the Nork after taxes and shipping.

So if you actually intend to run your gun, and therefore need quality mags, the cost difference between a Norinco Sig knockoff and an actual West German Sig - incidentally most serious Sig guys believe these to be the best of the Sigs - is negligible, or possibly in favour of the actual Sig. For this reason I think buying the Norinco version is frankly nuts.

Can you tell me where to buy one for less then $600 now? Or can I buy yours, please? Seriously, are you willing to sell or help me find a deal like this?

Please help, before I buy a Norinco!!!

Can you tell me where to buy one for less then $600 now?

My 226 was a police trade in (not CPO) and a great value from Wolverine Supplies back in '06.

Watch the equipment exchange or look for used guns from one of the above forum sponsors.

Heh, I was wondering where the haters be at. They have arrived.

(1) Is the Nork a SIG?
No, it is made in China. If you can live with that continue.
(2) Will it do everything A real SIG does?
Yeah, it will go bang and put the bullet approximately where you want it. The rest will depend on you.
(3) Are the parts compatible?
So far, the answer is sorta. The grip screws are a different thread and the sight dovetails are larger then the SIG's. So factory SIG sights are not going to fit without some creative thought. Everything else seems to work well. The only issues I've faced seems to be the E2'ed grips need a little bit of fiddling to get them on. They need the new torsion style spring and you have to shave a little bit of material off the right grip above the top screw. The frame is cut slightly different on new SIG's. Everything else has gone in with no issues what so ever.
(4) But the nork triggers are HORRIBLE!
Actually, I've sold about 10 of them and the triggers have been largely good with some really heavy ones thrown in the mix. Nothing a spring change and maybe a polish wouldn't fix. To be honest I have tried some nork triggers that were crisper in single action then any real SIG P226 or P229 I've shot.
(5) It's Chinese, is it going to rattle loose in my hands or explode like some sort of Chinese conspiracy!?
While they haven't been tested in a scientific way as far as I know, I feel they will hold up similarly to a real SIG Sauer.
Figured I posted in the other thread Id add it to this one...

That being said, I do have plans to buy a real SIG, a P225... eventually.
