Sig P226, I love this pistol!

I just returned from the range, where I sampled a Sig P226, 228, a Walther P99 and a Glock G34

I've only shot a pistol once before about 12 years ago or so, this was my first time shooting since passing my firearms courses a few weeks ago.

I've heard plenty about how accurate the P226 is, but I was so surprised to put a 1.5" grouping at 21 feet. No separate holes, just one large 1.5" wide by .5" high ragged hole. Wow, what a pistol!

The 228 was great too, but a little more ragged at about a 2" grouping.

This was one of the new Crismon Trace jobbies, but I turned off the laser, since I really wanted to sample the pistol, not mess around with toys. (No offense to those who like the laser, I think it's cool, but my purpose today was to just simply shoot).

I don't think any of that was due to any particular skill on my part, this is really my first time shooting, just a testament to how easy it is to pick up this pistol and shoot.

A P226 is definitely going to be my first purchase when my pal shows up.

In comparison the G34...turned out to not be for me...
 
I was shocked when I was talking to RL1 when he said the new Sig Blackwater @ $1715 + taxes and shipping of course. Pritty much a Sig 226 R with night sights, new grips and front serrations on the slide.

I too think the 226 is a great gun. Solid, well built, balanced and accurate. I think the basic gun is good value for money... and the factory refurbs out there are a bargain if you find one that hasn't got a lot of holster rash.

Last I heard Sig factory referbs also have the slide refinished if they show any wear.
 
I'd like that; great quality without the brand name markup :)

this one looks kinda SIGish...too bad it's only availabe in .45 and .38super...

Lugger - Now even I gotta admit that's a nice looking pistol. Wouldn't mind it in .45ACP either [everyone knows 9mm is a lightweight... :p ].

Barrel looks short, though - is it 'prohib'?? :confused:
 
I recently became a Sig convert. I jumped on the 1911 band wagon a year and a half ago and bought a Kimber TLE II. Great gun, loved it, but got very bored. So I sold it and bought my very first Sig, an almost new, 20 rounds thorugh it 226. I have owned an HK, Beretta, S&W, and Glock. This Sig is bar none, the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. It is not quite a ergonomically correct as my favorite pistol, my Hi-Power, but far exceeds it in accuracy. It is the most pleasureable gun I have ever shot, I love it.
 
Refurb 226

I just picked up a refurb 226 9mm and its just like new. No holster rash at all. They did have a refurb 40 cal that did look like it had some wear on the slide.

Actually, it comes with: night sights, 2 sets of grips (both the Custom Blacwater Wood grips and regular Sig factory grips) and 5 magazines. Don't forget about the extra mags. Genuine Sig mags can be pricey. So it's expensive for sure, but you do get some extras. Not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't say Sig was ripping it's customers off either.

All this talk is getting me ansy to go shooting, but I'm still about a month away from signing up for a club... I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning!
 
I recently purchased a P226 all stainless referb and Wow what a gun. Man this is the best pistol I have ever shot. Much like you the accuracy was unbelievable. I'm now selling my Glock because of it. For a factory referb it looked like it had only had a few rounds through it. Plus it was the only way I could afford it. :D
