ok here's the question...
would a sig sauer p226 magazine fit a sig sauer p229 pistol??? obviously a p229 mag would not fit in the p226 pistol for being to short. BUT would a 226 mag work in a 229?.
i only ask this cause i'm thinking of getting a few p229's, and wondering if i could cut corners and save some money on extra magazines. i dont have a p229 yet so i cant try it out...

anyhow let me know. cheers...

On a somewhat related question.... I'm thinking of ordering some mags for a 229 9mm from Brownells. A couple questions:

What are the best mags: SIG ARMS. MEC-GAR or PRO MAGS? I know that the SIG mags that come with the gun are tough to get the 10th round into.

Are 228 mags and 229 9mm mags interchange? It seems that they are. Just want to double check.

Anything I should know about ordering 10 round mags from Brownells? Keep it under $100 (2 mags) I suppose. Other than that?

If you order two mags for $78, you could do the same thing again shortly afterward no problem? I'm not really up on my U.S. export laws.

Mec-Gar is the best, followed by Sig. ProMags are pure garbage - do not ever buy them for any gun that you own.

The 9mm P226 mags will work in a 9mm P229. The 9mm P226 mags will fit loosely into a .40/.357 P229, but there's no point as you gain no extra capacity, and it's not advisable as the mag well is wider. Same problem with the .40/.357 P226 mags.

When the .40 P226 came out, SIG Arms couldn't be bothered to make the magazine well wider to accomodate a higher capacity magazine because of the AW ban in the US at the time (i.e. LE sales only for 11+ mags).

This is the reason the P229 and the P226 both have a 12-round capacity in .40 and .357.

As the mag lips are narrower I don't recommend putting the 9mm mags in a .40/.357 gun, because the strip of metal under the breechface is wider and can catch the lips and ruin the mag, especially given that there is enough room in the wider mag well for the mag to twist around.
