So I may be in the market for one?? just wanted to hear from some "owners/operators" about there experience etc. What was "availability" like? was it like finding a "four leaf clover" LOL, I see that IRG only had one for sale?. Comments on the trigger? did you switch to the SRT? or was the factory G2G? Don't forget pics & holster selection. Thanks

While mine is the standard finish and not Desert for me factory was G2G.

The holster I use is the Blackhawk Omega VI.

And of course can't forget the pics;

Video review to follow soon.

Thanks, cool pic BTW, just curious when you were sourcing holsters, were there any options like Blade Tech? or even a BH serpa? I wouldn't want to spend a ton of cash, and a DL isn't my thing.

Thanks :D. I was pretty happy with the pic, only thing that could have turned out better IMO was if the brass flying by my head wasn't so blurry.

When I was looking there wasn't much available that allowed use of a light. The pic I posted doesn't have the light on it as I was trying to keep the gun stock for the review. I believe once you start shopping for a MK25 holster that allows use of a light the options are narrow, things may have changed since I was shopping of course.

**Edited to add: I'll get on the phone and call around to see if Kydex holster options have changed much recently. You'd need to decide if you want a light mounted and what brand of course.

Just FYI the Omega VI can be configured to belt, MOLLE, or DL ;).

Looks like the P226 MK 25 Desert is not included in the SIG IOP, which could be a "deal breaker" ????
I've been using an INCOG, and they don't make one for the SIG MK25, :(

Well in all honesty I do believe the standard finish is more resilient than the desert. Unless SIG has changed their coatings they mark up pretty easy in the Desert finish and if that's of concern to you then combined with the IOP standard finish may be the way to go.

Holster selection you'll find to be pretty slim, and due to the difference in rail from the 226R to MK25 most 226R Kydex won't work properly. Perhaps if you're interested in a leather holster drop me a PM and we'll see if we can get you sorted, I have a MK25 here to shape off of ;). I also have some Kydex sheet I've been experimenting with and thinking of getting into.

So in keeping with the discussion about holster selection, I went with the Safariland 7378 ALS, very similar to the 6378 which I own a bunch of. The material on this is designed not to affect the finish and since I'm going with the desert model, that was an additional bonus. It's very light weight, and it comes made for the MK 25. It also comes in a "lefty" and FDE version without any additional cost or wait time. It has both paddle and belt configurations.

Sig's are known for their good out of box triggers. Of course they can be improved by a good smith or a lighter mainspring. I'd try the stock trigger first but the short reset trigger would only make things better in my experience. Also there is a short trigger available(thinner).

The nitron finish on Sigs wears like iron, I believe the dessert finish is a sort of cerakote finish, maybe not as tough as nitron but don't quote me.

Mk's do have a true picatinny rail as opposed to other models that share a propriety rail that still functions well as a picatinny.

The SRT trigger is a nice upgrade and so is using a lighter mainspring. I tried an 17lb mainspring and got a few light primer strikes then moved up to an 18lb spring and so far, no issues.

So after watching it for weeks it came on sale, what more can I say. should be here next week.:dancingbanana:

Beauty! That wasn't an option when I got my MK25 so mine is the original finish... Fantastic gun tho, mine rides in a Raven.
I find the factory trigger great honestly, and if you switch it on a MK you loose the phosphate coating on the factory one.
I did get a MK25 for the phosphate coated internals, chrome lined barrel and true 1913 rail to begin with... so I wouldn't switch it myself.

Sweet! Sig quality doesn't disappoint. I've got three so far, no regrets. Those grips can be changed out to g10 piranhas in fde, what a look. I know you can get them aftermarket, but Sig makes them with the 226 logo as well.

I break my 9's in with 124g copper, round nose; decent quality ammo(American eagle), for the first 1000. Never had any failures.

I do a grips off lube before using for the first time, don't forget the mags, there's a good bit of grease I found in a few. I only run mecgar mags(stamped made in Italy), I'm sure the checkmates(made in usa) are fine but I'm a picky bastard.

Can you get the 226 marked ones from Hogue?

Don't think so, you maybe able to order from mdcharlton(Mississauga, Ontario), who is a Sig distributor. Be forewarned took me 8 weeks to get my g10 pirahnas(in black) in. I was able to purchase directly through them for the hogues, but I believe Sig parts have to be ordered through them by your LGS.

Ya did some searching on the web, those G10 FDE are hard to find, I settled on some SIG FDE ones that come on the "combat".

So I gave the pistol a good once over, it's been years since I've owned a SIG product, and I'm impressed with this one, IIRC the P226 had about the best factory SA/DA trigger out there, and I wasn't disappointed in this offering. Overall very pleased with my purchase and IRG, the FDE finish is awesome, another bonus.

Been running a standard finish Mk25 for 4 years now, many thousands of rounds through it without a hic-up. Love it. For holsters I ran a bladetech 226 holster before i put a x300u on it. Post light I run a Bravo concealment belt holster and a KT-Mechanical holster for drop/offset applications. KT does custom kydex holsters in any style and for any light option. I highly recommend them.
