I'm using the SIG P226 TACOPS in .40 cal out here in BC.
Most of the time I make it to the range, it's either usually cold (as it's early in the morning on top of a mountain) or raining - so I'm pretty keen on wearing some sort of protection against the elements.
Coats, sweaters, fleeces, get in the way of a belt holster's operation - so I opted for a thigh rig (yes, yes, that was the reasoning I gave my wife for 'studying' all the different versions of thigh rigs on the 'girls with guns' thread ...)
I run the Safariland 6305 SLS / ALS Tactical Holster with the Quick Release Leg Strap.
SLS = this is the locking hood over the back of the slide (when the pistol is holstered)
ALS = this is a spring loaded metal piece inside of the holster that automatically clicks into the ejection port recess
Quick Release = This allows me to keep my belt on while taking the holster off.
With the firearm on my leg, I am free to wear coats, fleeces, whatever - as the weapon is now located about 4 inches blow my belt line.
