I've decided to get a sig p226 in 40. for weekend shooting fun, and maybe getting back into ipsc production.

So, do I get the stainless frame one with the rose grip like this one:http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/default.asp?Pg=8&do=3&mcid=1&scid=26&pid=1420

or the regular alloy frame?

Is it worth the extra $$?

What's the advantage/disadvantage of going with the full stainless sig?

O and who's selling them for a good price?

Please do share your thoughts.

You're not only getting the stainless finish for the extra money. You're also getting the SRT (short reset trigger), night sights and a beavertail (unnecessary but whatever). There's no real advantage to the stainless frame but the SRT and night sights are a few hundred dollars by themselves. Those rosewood grips aren't cheap either. The equivalent gun in the Nitron finish is this:

I just picked up a P220 Dark Elite for the same reasons as above. The aluminum grips alone on the Dark Elite are worth $250...

Thanks for the input. So how much difference does the SRT make?.

The all stainless is 8 oz heavier than the regular alloy frame, nitron stainless slide version. The wood grips look great but are quite thick not very grippy. How about this? Lighter, E2 grips (but can fit any Sig or aftermarket regular screw grips, I've got Hogues G10 on mine), SRT trigger, front cocking serations and night sights:

I like the SRT trigger, nice short reset.

Enough difference for me to justify the extra cost! :)

If you want the stainless look, then go for it. I usually prefer black finishes cos I like playing mirror commando ;) but you can never go wrong with a stainless Sig with rosewood grips...timeless beauty :)

I have a 226 ST in 9mm and I am very happy with it. Mine's an older model without the beavertail or the SRT and came with factory Hogue rubber grips. The real advantage to the all stainless model is the extra weight. Mine is extremely accurate and weight makes the recoil feel like I'm shooting .22 instead of 9mm. I'm sure with the .40 this would also be an advantage. Unless you have very large hands you will probably end up changing the grips as although they look great they are a tad large for most people.

Well if you want my opinion.. GO STAINLESS ALL THE WAY!!!... There is nothing more beautiful to me than a Stainless pistol. Damn... LOL.. i could post pics of all my stainless pistols to try and convince you but i wont..

Ok well maybe just one..

I've been looking to get an Elite Stainless like this one but I wish I could get to shoot one and feel the trigger before doing so!
It'd really help me decide whether it's worth it or not to pay 1300$ for it :p

I recently had the opportunity to do just that. The SRT is definately worth the extra money(any model), and for me the thick Rosewood grips fit great. I also liked the extra weight of the ST.

Care to elaborate?

S.S. is a troll when it comes to any topic involving SIG's as he finds it his job to tell everyone his opinion that they are ugly.. got old a long time ago.

Anywhoo- I think the Elite Stainless is the best looking 226 by far and having SRT on the trigger is just icing. I think questar's pricing will be the best but they are on back order, I believe.
