Sig P226

Im not an auto fan but this P226 from 1984 with two clips from Mac-Gar? came up.
What would a guy pay for one of these in excellent cond..?

$700-800 in excellent condition. 1984 it would have the scalloped rails, so its a 9mm i presume? is it a CPO (red box gun).
and another selling point for sig fans, is it stamped made in W germany on the frame, with matching serials on the frame slide and barrel.

My baby is a W. Germany with the stamped steel/folded slide and the extractor inside the slide not open to debris like the new ones. I really prefer the way the older German made ones feel when you run the slide back and forth without a mag in. Super tight and smooth.

If it's from 1984 then likely it has one of the old rail designs, so it's best avoided. Take it apart and check the rails, there may already be cracks in them, I've seen them go after as little as 200 rounds. Serial number will be between U100001 and U150000.

that would be the scalloped rails, they were prone to breakage, why they upgraded the rails in 1994 (abouts) to compensate for 40sw.

if your shooting 9mm, it should be fine (just no +P rounds, only regular 9mm).

if i were you i would dicker the guy down to around 600-650, because of its age, even if its in great cond its still old, with an old design.

i know what you mean, i have two 9mm 226 W german sigs w/stamped slides non rail, awsome guns, my safe queens. i also have two W german p220's.

purchased a brand new sig p226r, dont care for the forged steel slide or rail. so its my beater.

Pfff, that is an interesting perspective on "old". Considering most of my handguns date from between 1871 and 1896, my 1984 West german 220 is the newest gun in the safe and is brand spanking new in my eyes Nonetheless the Sigs of this period are relatively undervalued gems.

If contemplating such a purchase I would buy the "old" 226 and buy a new one then sell the lesser of the two after comparing/shooting. I am reasonably certain which one would be a keeper unless one buys into the notion that everything newer has got to be better.
