I am interested in the P229 Elite Stainless but I would like to be able to convert between 9mm and 40S&W. I have done a lot of reading about this here and on the Sig forum and what I learned was that there is a difference between the P229 in 9mm and 40S&W and you can move from the 40 to the 9 but not from a 9 to a 40 because the gun itself is different. I am talking about using the special 9mm Bar-Sto barrel of equivalent and not buying a conversion kit that includes a new slide like the 22 LR conversions use. I also read that the design of the P229 has recently changed and that now there is no difference between them and you can now move from 9 to 40 without any issues.
I just talked to someone at Questar and they said that the design has changed and that there are actually fit problems with the older Sig barrels that they have in stock and the new P229 design. Given this change, they are unsure if a Bar-Sto (or other company) conversion barrel in 9mm would still fit in the new P229 designed pistol. He talked about filing something down by about 1/16 inch since there was now interference because of the new pistol design but I wasn't sure what he was referring to since I am not at all familiar with this pistol as I do not currently own one yet.
Does anyone have experience with the new Sig 229 design and this conversion, or understand the details of the difference between the old and new design and how this effects the conversion.
Thanks.
