Am I missing something here? I read that the M11 is actually a P228 wich don't exists anymore. They are replaced by the P229? Heres the 2 I was looking at the first one is my favorite it is a P229 Scorpion Threaded Barrel.

And this one is the M11-A1 Threaded barrel

Anyone have opinions on differences between the 2? Do you think it is possible to get the P229 elite stainless with a threaded barrel without adding like 400$ to the price?

My understanding (read: not fact) is that the m11 is the military designation for the pistol

It is a 228 released for civilian purchase, however all the internals/magazines/etc are interchangeable with a 229

That isn't to say that it is identical to a 229 though. Frame is slightly smaller. Phosphate coated, etc

If you like everything about the stainless, I would just buy that- and then buy an aftermarket threaded barrel

Others will have more insight

I like the Stainless elite too, but don't recall seeing one with a factory threaded barrel (just one with a slight Pinocchio). The Elites are getting up there in price even before the barrel swap, so hard to avoid a significant premium unless you luck out on the used market.

Technically it is the M11-A1 that is "released to civilians". It is a P229 without an accessories rail, and some coated internals. Identical in every other way. Every part is interchangeable between the M11-A1 and the P229-1.

The short story long, is that the M11 is a P228.
The original P229 9mm frame is more or less a P228 frame, with or without a rail.
Then along came the P229-1. It was built to accomodate the .40 and .357 Sig. All P229's of all calibres are now the P229-1 frame, and have been for some time.
The M11-A1 was a marketing scheme to sell some new guns. It is a rail-less P229-1 with phosphate coated internals, and some neat markings.

Mags are interchangeable between the M11 and original P229 9mm.

Mags from the M11 and P229 9mm will fit in the P229-1 and M11-A1, but not vice versa.

I hope that helps.

Edit: That stainless might be the most attractive gun out there!

It's too bad Sigs don't come with the nonthreaded 106mm barrels like a few years ago. It didn't stick out too much.
