The P226 Elite is 8.2" Long the P229 Elite is 7.6" Long
The P226 Elite is 5.5" Heigh the P229 Elite is 5.1" Heigh
The P226 Elite is 1.6" Wide the P229 Elite is 1.6" Wide

Yes the P229's are smaller but same width.

Of course it will stick out... if it didn't then the barrel would be too short to legally import into Canada.

The barrel sticks out very little and the gun actually looks good with it compared to others where the barrels stick out too much. The "canadian" 229 is one sharp lookin firearm. I'd buy this in a second if I had the dough.

Will there be an option for 9mm unported barrels, so as to make the pistol legal for IDPA? 'Cause that would be a gun I could buy...

We have considered a non-ported version but that will depend on demand... if we get enough orders we would have them made.

Not exactly. The P229 mag is a bit shorter (remember the gun is a bit smaller height and length). The P226 mag fits in the P229 but it sticks out the bottom a touch more than the standard magazine.
