Here at my father in laws for the weekend, we installed the LaserMax LMS-2291 for his SiG P229 and now we can not field strip the SiG. The Laser works but we're afraid to shoot it as we can hear a mechanical banging sound when trying to remove the slide. The slide is now effectively jammed almost as if there were a mag in the P229 but there is not. The slide simply will not push all the way forward when trying to field strip. We're now stuck! It does go forward but not far enough to remove from the frame.

Need some input, I can provide pics if absolutely necessary.

Thanks so much in advance,
Tim.

That's weird. Did you remove the "locking insert" to install the on off switch and did it go back in correctly? I'm assuming this is the model that replaces the guide rod. Does it seem that the slide is being blocked by the guide rod hitting the insert?

kxc223, thanks for the quick response!

What do you mean by locking insert?

We followed the lasermax directions. The ONLY thing I can think of is how we installed the recoil spring because the recoil spring they provided didn't have a flat looking end, both ends looked EXACTLY the same so we weren't sure which end was down and they made specific mention in the manual of which was down.

After an hour of fighting the slide we got it off and promptly UN-installed the laser max, there wasn't anything we did except lock it open, push the take down lever and work the slide, time and time again until it came off.

Dave is taking it to a gunsmith today to take a look at it.

Glad to hear that you were able to fix your problem. The "locking insert" is the large steel piece that fits into the frame and is a "cam" point for the barrel and also one of the places where the barrel locks in place when the slide is in battery. The take down lever runs through it so I thought if you replaced that it could be out of alignment and causing the slide to hang up.
