SIG P239 TAC 9mm - start the countdown! (NOW HERE!)

I ordered one of the 239's that Questar is bringing in. Can't wait! It is supposed to arrive on October 15th. :dancingbanana:

I expect another one of your famous pistol reviews! I don't look up to many people, but you've definitely got class when it comes to pocket rockets!
Edit: I've now read the thread and seen you've beaten me to the punch! I'm jealous.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but Ghostie (great posts by the way), I was wondering if your 239 TAC came with night sights?

Cheers!

Yep, as the other guys have said, the "TAC" model is always shipped out from the factory with night sights. I'm curious to see what the "state" of the 239 will be in Canada. How many people buy them? How many people want them? Will we get any holsters, mags, etc? Questar brought some in, that is where mine came from, but no other dealer seems to have brought any in - unlike the situation with the 229's the P2000's, etc. when those (otherwise prohib) guns started shipping to Canada. Everybody was selling them for awhile (and still are in many cases). Many of the site sponsors seemed to get them. The 239's, on the other hand, I am guessing that Questar got something like 5-10 of them. They are all gone now, and it is unclear to me how hard or easy it would be to get any more. The Questar page says "special order". In addition to the one I have, JEC18159 bought one, and there is a VPD guy that I know here in Vancouver (also on CGN) that bought one from Questar. I have not seen any 239's other than mine at the ranges I go to.

They are a fantastic little gun. I bought some Hogue grips for mine from Dave's Surplus in New West (I was surprised to see that they had them in stock, but the VPD issues some 239s in some sections, and that is who they brought the grips in for. Not exactly sure what sections of the VPD those are. Some detectives I believe, or people that don't want to try and conceal a 226 DAK!). I haven't actually tried the Hogue grips yet, but I will do that at some point. And I will put up some pictures on here.

My only "complaint" with the 239, if I can call it that, is that the slide-stop lever is considerably more recessed into the gun than with other SIGs - which means that you have to "watch it" that much more in not holding the slide-stop down. There is actually a cut-out in the left grip panel which it sits down into. I'm sure the idea is obviously to made it easier and more comfortable to carry flat against your body. The whole point of the 239, in my mind, is to make a somewhat smaller - but mostly flatter - 229 that will sit a lot flatter against the body and would be a lot harder to "make" through a jacket. The problem with that is that it is a lot easier to hold that slide-stop lever down when shooting.

Anyway, that is minor. It is a really nice shooting gun. Very accurate - which is a bit surprising given the way most people think of it - as a compact. I don't think there is really much difference between a 239 and other stock SIGs (226, 228, 229, etc.) on accuracy.

I hope some of the other stores get them, but I have the feeling that there isn't exactly a huge supply of them at SIG, let alone in Canada. Topgunsupply in the States had them on their webpage for awhile, but they are sold out now too.

I think you are right Ghostie. It seems that most of these are bought for Concealed Carry in the U.S. and for that purpose most people seem to choose .40 or .357 Sig. Still I'm glad that I picked one up and I concur they are very accurate. I have the Hogue finger grips on mine and I think you will like them. The add some "meat" to the grip and make the front strap "rounder" for much better control.

Thanks for the reply Ghostie. I really want a 239 but the price has gone above $1200 at questar because of the dollar, that's a little out of my range. I'd also be interested in an older 9mm version of the 228 or 229 (with rounded trigger guard and no rail). But it seems very hard to find them as a restricted. There are two 228's on the board for $3k:eek: but the seller is unwilling to break up the set or register them as restricted....sigh...

Edit: I'm not knocking questar, just knocking my budget :(.....

Yup, the Hogue grips seem to be widely accepted as a "must have" mod. After installing mine I would agree. The comfort of the grip just doubled for me.

I also put a Sig thread protector on my 239 today as well.

this is one hot pistol. i really like the hogue buns on this.
most people use it as a concealed carry in the states, and yup most choose the 40/357 models.
