SIG P320 Slide Play......

I noticed on my P320 that there is a bit of play between the slide and the frame (look at the gaps on the pictures) - at a guess I`d say a millimetre or two

I guess this is normal (as I don't own any other 9mm handguns to compare it with) but wouldn't it have an adverse effect on accuracy? I imagine when fired the slop/play there allows the slide and barrel to move around to some degree no matter how well the gun is aimed/held

Thoughts? Are other guns like this? The Sig 226 for example?

It's a polymer gun with short rails. The 226 is all metal with full length rails. If you see a Glock firing the dust cover flexes like crazy.

Shouldn't effect anything.

So, in theory, the all metal gun flexes less and should be more accurate?

I know its only a mm or two but even that small loss of accuracy will become more obvious over distance

I`ve been considering buying another handgun for a while and am trying to figure out my priorities
 
My P320 is the same; in my hands shoots no different than my P226, both are still more accurate than I am LOL.
 
Yep, that's normal play, BUT bear in mind that more of your accuracy will be lost from barrel-to-slide play than slide-to-frame play, as your sights are attached to the slide.

With the slide fully forward and the breech locked, check for barrel play and you'll find a better idea of how much looseness there is. Even then, for most shooting, the P320 should be more than adequately accurate for 99% of shooters.

I fancy another 9mm, leaning towards something metal and hammer fired as I already have the polymer striker fired P320

Right now I`m thinking P226 (possibly Legion or MK25) and I might trade the P320 for a P320RX if they ever show up

Yes, I checked the barrel and its solid to the slide (no movement that I can feel) but the more I study the frame to slide play I think it could/would have an effect on accuracy, perhaps not to a huge degree, but once the round is fired that slide can/will change angle up or down to where you were holding it when you initially pulled the trigger

Well if you're talking Legion $$ and remaining with Sig, consider the P226 LDC also.

I`m open to suggestion and would consider any brand

Didn't even know there was a such as thing as a P226 LDC so thanks for the heads up

It reminds me of the HK USP Expert I`ve looked at in the past (I know its not all metal) with the adjustable sights and hammer - has anyone tried one of them?

Shouldn't matter, that bullet has left the barrel before the slide starts moving, as long as your slide and barrel are a tight lockup your not going to have issues and your POI is going to remain the same, your sights aren't going to move.

Pardon my ignorance but I guess both improve accuracy?

I like the idea of the P320RX with the optic - it just looks "right" and would shoot well I imagine

Yes, both should improve accuracy I assume because both will lessen barrel movement.

The P320 X5 will have a slide that is pre-milled to accept a Romeo1(same optic on the RX).

Hmmm, so if theres gonna be an X5 does that mean a P320 Legion will follow.......?

Bills nailed this one...my p226 and p320 are both dead nuts accurate...the 320 is currently my fave pistol...I'm a little concerned because I'm really a 1911 fan...
