Sig Pro (2022) versus normal Sig 226

Good to know. Guess I can safely skip the E2 version in that case since my hands prefer bigger grips.

x2 man - grabbing a regular p226 is a solid handful, pretty satisfying for me. I will be buying aluminum grips one day which I've read a hair thinner, which is not something I need but I've read they are just about the perfect grips for sigs.

The SIG Pro most certainly is made by Sauer in Germany.

Its main success was being adopted by the French National Police.

It is a more durable pistol than the P226, but for target shooting, the P226 has a better trigger pull, wider range of accessories and so on. The SP2022 was purely designed as a cop gun. Some people say the SP2022 has a better trigger pull, and those poor people must have an American-made P226 with a particularly rum trigger pull.

The SigPro was the winner of one of the biggest pistol contracts in history. As a result almost every policeman in France carries one, it must have impressed someone to beat out all the other competitors.

I'm not saying it's not a good pistol, because it is, in fact I would go so far as to say the SIG Pro is the toughest pistol I've ever come across. However the French police trials had a very specific set of requirements for the pistol, basically that it was decocker only like the Beretta 92G and was double-action. That excluded guns like the Glock. The only other guns seriously considered were the utterly crap Beretta 9000 and also the H&K P2000. Cops who tested the pistol said they preferred the grip of the SIG Pro over the P2000 and the magazine release, except the decocker lever cut into their thumb, so Sauer redesigned it so it wasn't as sharp and put a rail on, and that became the SP2022. I think Sauer also promised to start deliveries faster than H&K which was another factor and they also preferred the holster that Sauer provided with the SP2022.

but which is the more logical duty / IDPA gun? by "cop gun" do you mean "idiot proof" or something else?

A SP 2022 with the larger backstrap that comes with the pistol is meatier than a 226.

And since I have both a SigPro and the XDm I can say that the XDm has the advantage of a more 'grip-able' grip.
The SigPro has a way better trigger.
The XDm is easier to shoot. (for me)

I prefer the decocker on the SP to a 22x but the takedown lever on the SP is not it's best feature.

For the price the SP is probably the best built polymer framed pistol out there.
