Despite being a Glock fanatic, I've lately been wandering over to the dark side (or maybe from the dark side?) into other handguns. I recently acquired a Steyr M9A1 and Springfield XD Compact (I really like the Steyr and my wife finds she prefers the XD over her G17C), but I've also been looking really hard at Sig as well.

Don't get me wrong - I love my Glock G19/G26, and I'll never part with either (Glocks and cockroaches will inherit the Earth) - but I can't help but wonder if the perfect 9mm isn't still out there waiting for me...

With a Glock it's easy - you've basically got 1 or 2 models to choose from. The dilemma with Sig is that they've got so many different models and then variations to choose from. Decisions, decisions...!

I'm looking for the most compact and durable 9mm that Sig makes, with upgraded trigger, night sights, etc. Could I humbly inquire of some CGN Sig owners to indulge me with their recommendations and thoughts? Thanks!

can't go wrong with a p229. i have a plain jane newer 229 enhanced in .40 with SRT and i love it. very accurate, and just feels great to shoot.

something like a 229 elite should have everything you are looking for (upgraded trigger SRT, night sights).

He just said everything..

If you find p229 too big..then go for subcompact p239 :)

I never intend on carrying mine around so i went for the big Xfive

I have the P229 Classic 22 and it's a sweet gun. I need a 9mm slide and barrel when they finally become available up here.

I have a few SIGs and have found that the P220 in 9mm is a great choice for smaller hands. They aren't made anymore, so you need to find a decent used one. I have bought 3 of them and they are great. P228 or 229 is also a good choice. The 220 is a single stack mag and the 228 and 229 are double stack. The special models, Equinox, Elite type of models ususally have fancy grips that are wider than the normal ones, so keep that in mind on your search.

Sig P239.

Smallest restricted Sig you can get in Canada. Slim, 8 rounds single stack magazine. Very smooth trigger.

I'd go with a P229 Stainless Elite model and would ditch the huge (but nice) wood grips for hogue G-10 or Sig E2 grips.

I second the recommendation on the 229, since you are looking for a shorter pistol. New grips will be a must, g10 grips are the thinnest and have great texture for a supportive grip. I run these on my 226 elite for competition, but switch them out to nills from germany for regular range use, as they just look and feel so good, and are still thinner than the factory grips.

Consider the full stainless version, over the dark elite as the extra weight makes these shoot like a .22. I am looking into having mine blackened (melonite) but can't find anyone in Canada to do it.... Yet! If I lived in the US mine would have already come back from Greyguns in superblack with a little bit of action work :( oh well, not moving anytime soon!:D

I'd go with the classic SIG P226 if you have big/medium hands.
P229 has a shorter grip, not good for my hands
try also the polymer model SIG Pro 2022, another good shooter!

Sig P229 Dark Elite. With SRT, combat adjustable night sights.

I use the P226 variant with beaver tail and threaded barrel (5").

Since you asked for compact go p229. Same variant. Stainless model is fairly more heavy. Check that out.

Everybody who tried my pistol really enjoyed it and really liked the SRT trigger. Grip on the Dark elites is also a big plus. Very nice grip. ( Aluminum Hogue I think. )
Sights are very nice. They hold zero and are easy to adjust. SRT trigger is a big improvement over my other p226 "normal" trigger. Super smooth from factory. (DA) 10lbs (SA) 4.5lbs.
I can group 4" and less at 25 meters standing no support with this pistol and it can do better benched. Very very accurate.

This particular one is "US made" and I don't see any reasons not to like them. I am positive the quality is still there.

Cheers.

i thought the p220 was one of the bigger sigs? do you mean just smaller grips?
( i bought a p220 in 45acp and .22, but yet to pick up and shoot, this weekends my first time seeing it.)

aside from that, i have shot the P226 and really liked it a lot. out of the CZ shadow, glock , HK and the 1911 i shot within 2 days the p226 was my fave. ill be buying on, just have to figure out what cal i want.
i tried the norinco version in 9mm. it was ok, but it just didnt feel the same.
the guys who owned the norinco said he has a real p226 and the norinco and he likes the norinco better.
i would consider one just because of the price,..but i think ill end up with the real 226
