Sig Sauer 1911, what about them?

10 round single stack .45 magazines are not permitted in IPSC competition as the magazine projection will not permit the pistol fit in the "box" for Standard.

That's the big disadvantage: shooting 8 round mags when your competition is shooting 10.

Single stack mags with a mag well are almost (notice I typed "almost" there) as easy to feed as doubles. Mag wells are permitted in Standard.

(But Lord help you if you're trying to feed a single in a stock pistol)

a) The magazine is not in the gun when it is put in the box. I use 10-round single-stack magazines with my .45 and have never had a problem qualifying for standard division. Because the magazine is not in the gun when they test it. You don't have to use 7 or 8 round mags.

b) I disagree with the "almost". The long single-stack 10-round mag is considerably more difficult to fit into even a bevelled mag well than a short double-stack. This is not only because of the length, but also because the end of the single stack is much smaller and not tapered like a double-stack. Essentially you're trying to fit a rectangle into a rectangle of almost the same size. With a double-stack you're fitting a much smaller rectangle into a much larger rectangle.

You are out of date. During the box test IPSC requires the magazine to be in. Canada did have an exemption, but that exemption has expired.

No more are extended magazines permissible, unless you want to be forced into Open division.
