Hi everyone, I've seen the US made Sig Sauer 516 Patrol Rifle popping up for sale here in canada. My first thought was that a piston driven system Sig Sauer AR sounds like a fantastic rifle, and the US made ones are cheaper and more readily available than the german ones.

But......now I'm hearing that the US made ones are experiencing quality control problems?

Anybody have an informed opinion, let me know, thanks!

One guy said something about something he heard on youtube.... something, something or another....and you automatically doubt your own research?

I have not read anything about QC probs on the Sigs.

I haven't done any research, never said I did, just heard persistent rumours - so I thought I'd see if any CGN'ers had some credible insight.

Took me 2 seconds to find two YouTube complaint videos so far.

One concerned a loose piston tube roll pin, which was an easy fix with a part that cost pennies.

The second video was a guy who couldn't get his piston .308 Sig 716 to cycle more than one shot - he had no solution, but it seems likely that it was user error (gas setting, poor ammo, brand new rifle not properly lubed, etc) rather than a faulty product.

So I'm not bashing the product, just trying to confirm/dispel negative comments with facts.

Rather than criticizing me, please add something constructive.

I like this product, I just want to know how reliable it is and I've discovered at least one problem to watch out for - what's wrong with that?

I'll just put this here:

I can't comment about the QC on their rifles, but they have sh*t the bed with their pistols. Bought 2 last year and both had ridiculous problems off the get go, thank god I purchased one from Wolverine with their no BS warranty policy. This is only my opinion, and I know others will come on here and defend Sig calling me and names and whatnot, but I am leery of anything with Sig Exeter on it now due to my previous problems with them.

You are not alone...Exeter Sig post-2005 has become fairly notorious for weak QC, cheap 3rd-party parts and focusing primarily on ever-###er finishes for their pistols. They have been repeatedly either tossed from procurement competitions or sued after delivering guns that barely ran. Your observations are very much in line with current thinking on Sig USA.

Wish the forend incorporated the gas block for a further reach out over the barrel...I think that's the only thing stopping me from buying a 516. Possibly the SBR is my only actual consideration

The German made Sig rifles are better made than the U.S. made rifles. The QC is tighter, they are third party tested and verified, they use higher quality materials and have much better control over the manufacturing process than SIG USA does. This does not mean you will always get a bad US Sig, it does mean you will ALWAYS get an EXCELLENT German made Sig. The German Made Sig's are always worth the price difference over the U.S. made Sigs. Sig USA is all about profit, Sig Germany is still concerned about reputation and it shows in the workmanship.
