Hi all, I have a heavily used Sig P226 Legion with a badly worn PVD finish. I’m thinking of having it Cerakoted. That said, I have a 22 conversion kit, I am considering having it done also to match. As you know, the 22 barrel was left bright from the factory, does anyone know who could blacken it to look similar to the factory 9mm barrel? I’m having Red Tower do the Cerakote, they said that they can’t do the barrel. Thanks to all! Bill

Red Tower used to do DLC coating. That could work on a barrel.

Thank you, I’ll ask again. Perhaps the tech that I spoke with wasn’t aware of this other process. To be fair, I asked if they had a bluing technique that would work on stainless to approximate the Sig barrel finish. So maybe I didn’t ask the right question.

Of all the hand guns I own / have owned, the Sig P22x family suffers the worst from wear on the barrel finish. The top of the chamber and the top of the first inch of the barrel from the crown always seem to wear the quickest. My current 226 is nice and shiny on the top of the chamber/ locking block. You may want to consider that any new finish you apply will be gone rather quickly with any serious use. I have not experienced this on any other pistols, not to this extent at least.

Grease what slides....including the Bbl.
Oil what pivots

"Smiles" on a SIG P Series pistol barrel is trivial.

OP
Painting firearm internals is asking for problems.

I have always kept my P series well oiled and greased. They still wear with use. I'm actually some what fond of the smiles and the wear on the top of the chamber. Honest wear. Now a days people pay extra for that, like pre ripped jeans.

The smiles do not bother me either as I have several classic P series SIG pistols(220's,226's,227's,228's,229's) w/ 30-40,000 rounds of reloads through them.

IF the smiles bother the perceived appearance purchase a new Bbl for <$200 & shoot it some more.
