Sig Sauer makes a caliber exchange kit to take their P226 classic .22 to 9mm. Has anyone heard about this?

For $599, I can get a Sig P226, and add a 9mm capability for additional $500 or so. This sounds like a great deal considering new 9mm goes for $1100-1200. And, I get to plink away with a .22 barrel.

What am I missing? I've learned that if it's too good to be true, then....

It's a great way to practice with the gun, the only problem has been getting the calibre exchange kits, not so much an issue with the 220 or 226, but the 229 requires an aftermarket barrel.

It's a fantastic deal... SIG actually priced them in such a way that it's cheaper to buy the Classic 22 + the 9mm X-Change kit instead of buying the 226 9mm gun and a .22lr conversion kit. Cheaper for us and therefore cheaper for you. It's like almost getting the .22 conversion for free when you compare the two methods of doing it.

You can't go wrong.

Hey Mark. Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely interested in the 226 .22 & the 9mm X kit. Have you guys been able to bring in the 9mm X-change kits without problem? It looks like you are backordered. I have a standard restricted PAL. Will this do for both the .22 & the X change kit?

Finally, what would I lose by not going for the 9mm in the first place? And, what's the price for both shipped to Calgary?

Thanks for all your help.

The only X-Change kits we haven't been getting are the 229 X-Change kits. SIG hasn't been filling out US orders (not available) and so we haven't had them to import. They are more money due to the barrel issue but regardless we just haven't receive any of the 229 kits.

As for the 226 X-Change kits we've been getting continuous shipments all last year... just waiting on the next shipment now from SIG.

RPAL is what's needed for handgun purchases.

Shipping is a flat $9.99 plus insurance.

So Glock is no longer my first choice. What would the total cost be for the 22lr gun and then the 9mm kit Mark?

Thanks Mark. Can I order the Sig .22LR now along with the X-change kit at the same time? I realize the X-change will be backordered. Do I call your office? Email? I'm in Calgary.

For the other poster: .22LR appears to be around $600, with $500 for the X-change kit.

Cheers.

I was just thinking of asking this same question.

Mark,

What is the difference between the SIG-226BR-22-BAS and the SIG-226R-22-BAS.

And as far as reliability and quality are the 226 x-change models up to the same spec as all the rest. I am looking to get my first SIG because I have heard nothing but good things but not to much first hand experience. I have shot a few 226 and a 2022 at different ranges and they have all been great guns but that is about it.

226BR is a Beavertail frame... 226R is non-Beavertail frame... otherwise they are the same. See the pictures on the website of each model.

Quality of the Classic 22's and the X-Change kits is same as the standard guns.

I am new here and new to owning a SIG 226. I want to buy the .22lr conversion kit for my 9mm P226. I have the 226 without the picattiny rail. Will the conversion kit fit both frame styles??
Thanks

So, Mark from Questar, and other posters too: are you saying that if I want a .22 semi auto, and someday want to shoot 9mm, etc, I'm actually better off buying a Sig .22 and then buying a 9mm or whatever kit?

There's no downside in terms of fit function reliability going from a .22 to centre fire?

And, it's cheaper than buying a centre fire then a .22 kit?

I bought my 9mm x change kit for my 226 from Questar and works great!!!
As for the .22 I have had only 1 jam for every 100-150 rounds using winchester 1350 FPS ammo. Remington ammo jams every mag I put in so try out different ammo to see what's best for you.
Now i just need to save up and buy the .40 X change kit from Questar;)

Hi Mark- so is there a downside (per Revolver Roger's comment )to getting a .22 then adding the centrefire kit?
