Sig Sauer CROSS

I am looking for the collapsed size combined with the light weight. It looks like the it is reliable now with the trigger issue addressed and the accuracy results under 1 moa. To me it looks very hard to beat especially with the new PRS version that just got released at the Western Hunt expo.

I own a 6.5 Creedmoor, one of the first landed. I have put several rounds through it and Hunted with it all this year putting put quite a few km's on with it. Here are some points, take them how you wish!

- Compactness is nice, but I found I never really folded the stock when I had it in use and it can be a little stiff to deploy fast.- More of a transporting thing for me. It carries excellent on long days, nice to be able to sling it across my front and use Quick adjust 2 point slings. I love carrying a rifle when I hike/hunt. However, I am sure the Folding stock would be very handy if you packed in your rifle.

- Bolt is smooth and fast- Not Cadex smooth, but nothing to complain about. I do not like the bolt handle but I just hockey-taped it into a more circular shape.

- My safety is a little spongy- doesn't have the positive "snap" of most AR-style safeties. I have read that many rifles have this problem, some do not.

- The rifle and handguard can get cold and make your hands cold over time. I wrapped mine in camo form to solve this.

- Trigger is a very nice two-stage that easily adjusts.

- Accuracy: I have not had much luck in this department. I had quite a bit of 6.5CM Sako ammo around and some really cheap hunting ammo, so that is all I have tried. Over winter I have collected more and plan on getting it out to try different loads and I hope to get better results. I have heard it is accurate, so it should be either the round I am shooting or something with my particular rifle. Next to my Cadex with the same ammo, it is currently severely lacking!

- Trigger Issue- I have SEVERAL rounds thru it, carried it, and have tried with all my might to get the trigger to do something funny. So far nothing but safe, and it has been out long enough now with no more reports of issues that I have seen.

Even with the quirks, I cannot get over how much I liked having this rifle on a hunt. When comparing this to the Christensen MPR, I decided on this mainly because I knew I wouldn't mind beating it around a little more. The Carbon handguard on the Christensen made me stray away from possibly damaging such a beautiful rifle.

Clearly you’re forgetting the Christensen MPR, which is leaps and bounds better than the sig in every way, and I’ve owned both.. only own one still.. care to guess which?

I paid 2800$ for my 16” fully carbon .308 MPR. Stainless steel versions are cheaper… what’s the sig worth these days.. 2400??? Definitely not the best bang for your buck lol not to mention all the problems the sigs had.

I had one of the first MPRs in Canada, imported through Prophet River. Neither PR nor Christensen Arms were worth a pinch of coon-crap when my wonderful 6.5 CM Carbon-Fibre Barrel crapped the bed at less than 350 rounds down-range. Here's the tale of woe that I wrote at the time: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...eat-in-a-Christensen-Arms-Carbon-Fibre-Barrel

Bottom line? I wouldn't touch another Christensen Arms MPR with a C-F Barrel for all the tea in China. Come to think of it, based on my Customer Disservice experience with Christensen, I wouldn't buy another or their products, period. They shoudl be run out of business based solely on their non-existent customerr "service".

My rifle was built after the re-call / recent revisions & is a 16" barrel .308 Win model

bolt smoothness = butter

accuracy = 1 moa for me with Hornady Match...granted I'm a crap shooter...probably could do better in different hands.

reliability = no issues...ever

compactness = the folding stock is a bit of a pain to get collapsed due to the lock mechanism (cross slot requires pressure) but goes into ready nicely and is tight!

etc…. = cold to hold - added Magpul M-Lok rail covers. No brake included but common thread, so easy to add (went with MDT Elite). Its tall...doesn't fit in most hunting type pack scabbards such as Eberlestock Gunrunner. Go to tactical scabbard type packs and no issues.

All in all its a great rifle for a light weight, magazine fed rifle. Its not the same as a light weight blind magazine mountain rifle but vs it is easier to get on target, faster for follow up shots and more compact. The cheekrest design works very well with piggy back RDS. Ability to add a m-lok rail & have a white light on it is nice for evenings in the tent with dead game hanging near by.

My 2 cents, take it for what its worth

What's the barrel change going to be like on this unit? I'm looking for more of 22" or so sporting profile.. or that's the dumb idea I have in my mind.

Barrel change is not difficult, I rebarreled to 6mm creed to turn the thing into a PRS gun. This was before sig released the PRS cross. I reused the barrel extension. If you can line up a second barrel extension you could swap barrels in minutes after headspacing the second barrel. I reused my barrel extension so i had to headspace the new barrel with old extension. Accuracy has been phenomenal with the new IBI barrel. The original 6.5 barrel was impressive too, easily making accurate hits out to 800m, but POI would wander after 5-6 rounds.

Now I’m at a crossroads. Do I sell the thing and buy a sig cross PRS or wait for sig to sell the cross PRS hanguard and steel stock?

Favorite out the box .308 rifle. Bergara & CZ always hanging out in the safe. Folded it is compact. Light weight.. Bolt not as buttery as the 2 safe stayers listed but it's very nice. Accuracy is awesome even with cheaper ammo such as Hirt or Barnaul. LOVE the Sig Cross.

I think the ticket with shorter 6.5 Creedmoor barrels is lighter projectiles.

On my 18" 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, I've settled with Lapua 123 Scenars. I get about 2850 fps out that barrel with no pressure signs.

Im still super hesitant on this rifle also OP. I see MOST ppl with moa or sub moa accuracy are hand loading. For those of us without that ability, it makes me hesitant.
