I recently purchased a Sig Sauer Classic 22 and have been running Remington 22 Golden Bullet 1400 High Velocity LR cartridges. It keeps jamming, almost like the cartridges are too big, as I have to push the slide forward to fire the next round. I know I should try a different type of ammo, but if this does not work, what should I try next? Any suggestions on what type of ammo to try or where to go from here would be greatly appreciated..

Get a 100 cci mini Mags, shoot them before shooting anything else.
That's what Sig recommends breaking in any 226 22lr.
After that mine eats just about anything, but also have had great success with CCI Ar Tac, which research shows is very similar to minimags so that makes sense.

Surprisingly, mine likes cheap Winchester standard velocity ammo. When my stash ran out, I started using CCI Mini-mags and I started getting a number of feeding issues similar to yours. I picked up some other ammo but I haven't gotten around to testing them yet.
Most likely ammo. The bullet weight/profile has a lot to do with it. A 40g round nose bullet works well whereas those cone type with the shoulder are problematic. Remington is notorious for that. Once you get the gun working well, it will probably eat anything. The CCI MiniMags are ideal in a new gun and if budget permits, continued use.

Humm, I believe I got the 36gr HP Mini mags (got to verify when I get home). Couldn't find the 40gr anywhere at the time.
Stay away from hollow points. I've been having pretty good luck with winchester m22, with about 1 failure to fire per hundred(occasional failure to feed as well). You can expect that the dirty 22 ammo will gunk up your pistol enough to cause cycling issues after the 200 to 300 round mark. I've yet to find the recommended cci ammo(copper round nose) in my parts.
I find that with my 22 the recoils so light that i tend to loosen my gripping pressure, enough that ill start causing failures because of that.
Mine was a real pita for the first 1500 rounds(massive number of all sorts of failures). I finally broke down and polished the feed ramp; that helped immensely.
Also noted that my rounds that were failing to fire, the breech was slightly not in full battery. Trigger would engage and hammer would drop but that tiny gap was enough to cause a light strike. Upon inspection I found those failed cases had a small dent on the side, indicating that the round almost failed to feed. That's where the feed ramp polishing helped.

Make sure your rails are clean and well lubed. They work a lot better when they're run wet. Grit tends to build up really fast in the rails and will cause malfunctions.
Stretching out your recoil spring a little bit also could help it get fully into battery during the "break in period."

Could be gummed up a bit, those golden bullets are pretty dirty. Give it a good clean, including brushing out the chamber.
Had the same issue with mine when I first got it. Keep it clean and oilier than usual for the first bit. I put 1000 rounds of Remington Thunderbolts through mine it now shoots pretty much anything I feed it from craptastic Winchesters to American Eagle to anything else I find. Once it's broke in a bit it'll be a great shooter for you

Golden bullets are terrible for gumming semis up... See if yoU can break it in with ANY others...

I recently helped another member out at my club who was also running a Sig in 22 with Remington golden bullets and who kept having the exact same problem you're describing. I ran them in my own Sig and had similar issues. I gave him 1/2 a box of Win 333's and it ate them all without a hiccup.
I personally have shot '000s of Win 222/333/555s out of mine and have not had any issues, so it sounds like it's the ammo, just as others here have already mentioned.
