I'm slowly thinking about letting some of my prized pieces go and wanted some inputs on this particular RCMP-GRC marked ERT/SERT pistol from anyone in the know.

The story I was told is that Sig Sauer replaced some W. German '84 dated P226 pistols that showed frame failures after firing tens of thousands of +P rounds in stringent ERT/SERT training and that would probably be one of them.

It's a K-Kote finish W. German JG date code (1986) P226 and has the "rare" mud rails (grease pockets) frame made 2 years in '86 & '87. The back of the factory grips checkering was smooth off. It's in factory yellow P226 box with both original 15 rounder zipperback mags (limited to 10 round of course). It definitely didn't see a lot of use, I don't even think it was ever holstered.

I know that some 1984 dated RCMP P226's were sold to a couple of shops but had the RCMP-GRC marking smooth off before going into civilians hands and these P226's were in poor cosmetic condition after being used & abused by the ERT/SERT members for years. Any one knows if other "RCMP-GRC" marked pistol left the armory to be registered to civilians?

Folks, feel free to drop a line since I'm pretty much in the dark with this one. What's the actual history on how did it escape the grinder and what would be the current value if I want to put a price on it?

I don't know any of the history of these pistols, but I do recall that just a couple of weeks ago, Epps had one for sale. It sold immediately for $999 so I would set that as the low-mark for pricing:

BLUED FINISH, CHECKERED BLACK PLASTIC GRIPS, DA/SA TRIGGER, DOT/POST SIGHTS, FRAME-MOUNTED DECOCKER, 10-SHOT MAGAZINE (X2), BORE EXCELLENT -- LEFT SIDE OF SLIDE ENGRAVED "RCMP GRC" -- ORIGINAL ORANGE CARDBOARD BOX

I just went on their website and can't find it? I know you said it sold fast but where can I find the description you posted? Could you provide the link if possible?

The Tysons Corner VA would likely peg it at 1985-1992ish. Most of the Sigs you see out there are all marked with the newer NH location. Likely one of the competitors that was beat out by the S&W that they are currently using, so that would really point to '91/92.

My humble option, it should more like 1200.oo, 1000.oo I can see a real fast sale.
looks nicer than new ones I have see. But you take real good pictures.

Thanks for the info JJ, I know that a few US importers were mixed with the W. German SIG’s and that in Mid-1990 they all went in Exeter NH but forgot about exact timelines.

The finish is indeed better looking than the most recent Nitron. I made a mistake at first stating that in was Nitron while it’s actually K-Kote. K-Kote was the optional finish that cost more than the Electroless Nickel version. K-Kote finished P series SIG’s are supposedly quite rare but don’t have numbers to support this.

K-Kote is actually more glossy and dark than the plain common blued version which is more grey and matte, like parkerized.

Too bad it doesnt have the added horse riding mountie logo like on the regular issue pistols. Would probably increase value even more.

Theres some crazy enthusiasts out there. 1500 would probably eventually sell. Ert rcmp pistols arent common.

Sadly the RCMP emblem never was on the ERT/SERT P226’s. It was added on the Smith & Wesson contract pistols (M5946 and M3913) in 1993 when the model 10 5” was replaced.

I had one of the ground off slide guns for a while, I think I bought it from Lever Arms for about $400, but not 100% sure. It was in that time period and was due to the original batch having issues with slides cracking I think. IIRC, Sig replaced them for the ERT use. Mine was in pretty good shape cosmetically with the exception of the crude grinding job down to bare metal on the left side of the slide.

I wonder how that one escaped?

I know my former dept. sold guns with their stamping on them and did not attempt to remove the marks at all, but I guess its different with the RCMP.

Everything is pretty much different with the force... but indeed weird that it escaped the grinder.

I almost broke my phone and my sig 226 because i saw the "rcmp" engraving, didnt want to get mine infected.

Side notes, i thought they were never suppose to be sold to the public.

I'd say the value is in the $1000-1200 range, due to condition, box, and importantly pedigree. Pretty rare unit. That's what I would pay, anyways.

Non-RCMP I would say $800 likely.
