Looking to find an approximate value for a P226-40-S with rail. I can't find any to compare to other than Elite models.

Frame is stainless made in Germany without a beavertail, slide is stainless made in USA. Pictured with Hogue G10 grips but also has original SIG grips.

Value of course is entirely dependent on the demand. There are plenty of newer Elite and following special (full-stainless) models but these were decent sought after when they were available.

The Hogue G10 grips sell for $100 CDN (new) and don't really lose than much value. At $750, it would be a nice steal/deal given the price of used plain, aluminium framed P226s. Assuming barrel and overall condition are good, I'd have no trouble paying $900 or more for it. As mentioned above, number of mags would be considered.

OP,
Does said pistol come with the original box/paperwork?

Your model designation seems off P226-40-S?

By chance is this P226 pistol an LDC?

By chance an aluminum frame?

It does come with the original case, I added a picture of the case sticker, definitely stainless.

Full disclosure, I was looking to see what the base value would be but this is part of a very large package, I'll update the original post to list accessories.

I am not sure about LDC, so many variants, I need to look that up.

Yeah, I probably undervalued it at $750ish. I owned a 9mm one a few years ago—I like the look of the original-style frame compared with the large beavertail on the Elite models. The all-stainless frame would make for a comfortable-shooting pistol, too.

Based on the pics and information provided, this is a P226R-Stainless [R=rail, when Sig used that designation because non-railed versions were still sold, S=stainless]. This is a model from the early 200x, when Sig Arms USA (Exeter) made the machined slides and frames were manufactured in Germany. The other comparable and probably more sought after model was the stainless P226 (non-rail) made in Germany, not due to function per se but simply because it was sold in even smaller numbers.

Also from the pics, you can also tell it is not a LDC (which is a newer model with obvious Long Dust Cover frame + beavertail).

Since the P226R-Stainless, IIRC the Elite came out (with beavertail) as a replacement of sorts, followed by a number of other variants including the X5 and all the special edition models.

Personally, I also prefer the aesthetics of the original (duty) frames as well. Beavertails are supposed to serve a purpose against slide-bite and obviously on guns like 1911s, that might make sense (although I've never had a problem as I don't have fat webs), but on a P226 it is pretty nonsense and practically impossible to get slide-bite.

Indeed, the balance and weight of the stainless is always nice.

Thank you for the details Winz, hard to find info based on model numbers, especially in the timeframe of all the changes. I believe this is a 2004 as there is a hand written date on the serial number sticker on the case.

Any idea what the "CONT" may stand for from the model number on the case?

I sold a elite version for 1200.

Non elite like this is 900 -1000

Thats for 9mm. For 40sw would be less since alot less desireable

850 to 900 if its clean. Some want a nice show piece and caliber doesnt matter

I'm not sure it has anything significant in terms of model but it is possibly signifying Continental USA domestic sales.

Interesting take on evaluation. The 'Elite' as I mentioned above was a direct replacement of the 'Stainless' and offered nothing but the beavertail and the small front serrations, which was sold in vast quantities by comparison. Personally, I don't think it is worth any more or less per se.

As for value based on caliber... well 9mm is certainly has everlasting popularity. So I suppose if demand is higher, one could command a higher price.

If you can take nice pics and write a good EE ad you'll get $1000 for that, easily. Stainless Sig's aren't that easy to find. If it was a 9mm I'd say you would have more interested parties.

The SS 226 9mm with the Rosewood grips is around $1500+ now (if you can find it). Prices have gone insane.

Your pic is of an SSE-Stainless Steel Elite or possibly an ASE-Alloy Stainless Elite.
beaver tail frame
Elite slide has half height front serrations

And your point is?

Just showing what's available in SS and the new pricing. I want him to know he can get at least $1000 for that gun he has. He's not going to find the exact same model for sale in 2021.

$750-$850. .40cal is a tougher sell than 9mm. I sold a pair of X5's, one 9 and one .40; had to take 20% less for the .40 for it to move.
