There is the E2 grips but my favourite is Hogue checkered G10 grips. Slimmer and grippier. Most internal parts are the same. Obviously the frame and slide are different between the two.
Nice choice on the P229, I love mine. I have three different sets of grips and the stock grips are the smallest of the three. It looks like your only option is probably just the E2 grip as suggested.
Also, look to the P228 for some interchanging of parts such as the magazine and grips.
For the parts question, some yes, other no. The parts that are interchangeable will normally be labelled as such. Grips, barrel, recoil springs are not.
226 mags fits 229. SRT and internal springs are interchangeable.
Got hogue g10 piranhas in black(no grey) ordered for mine, should be here in 30 days. As mentioned e2's are small but be forewarned you may have to replace a few internal parts to install in some cases. Not a big fan of the e2 look myself. Aluminums are supposed to have a slim profile like e2 and g10's. Aluminums tend to be cold in winter months and scratch easily.
Try shooting with your regular trigger for a while(if that's what you have), before switching out to the short trigger, so you'll have a comparison. You also may want to consider having a short reset trigger installed. I have the short reset in my 226 and plan to install on my 229. Sights should be considered as well.
I have a pair of e2's on my p226, thay are very slim as compared to the polymer grips. The plan is to replace the e2's with the g10 piranhas. I have held the g10's but never shot with them, according to what I've read on the net they're the cats a$$. Can't tell you which one is thinner, as I haven't done a direct comparison. I have no trouble reaching the trigger with any of my pistols mind you, but I can't wait for those two pairs of g10's.
