Does anyone on the forum have one?

They seem like great rifles - basically a poor mans Sauer 202! (barrel change and bolt look almost identical). I guess they were only imported for a few years from 1998-2001 or something.

I was looking for second hand prices, found one at Epps for $900

In the US they going for $400-$450 second hand at some places  What a bargain!

Cheers

They are superb rifles. I have two, 270 and 300 WM. Slick bolts, nice triggers, accurate. There may still be parts around, such as other barrels, including heavy barrels, wood stocks. EGW makes a one piece Picatinny scope base for it.

I compared one side by side to a Tikka, and the SHR was a bit heavier, but the overall feel, bolt, and trigger were far superior.

They were a lot of them dumped on the Canadian market during that period, and prices were in the $600 range. See what they can do anything on the price before buying.

Thanks,

I did see that now they are going over 1500 Euros.

I will keep trolling for a low priced older model, seems like those who got them really did score!

Hmm, 9.3x62? Were more calibres shipped into Canada? US dealers old lists had .25-06, .270,. .30-06, .280, .308 (apprently rare and highly sought after), 7MM RM and .300 WM

Cheers

Shr 970

i bought my son one in a 270win and really liked it. Recently I found one with walnut stock in 300win with a mint leupold vx3 4.5-14 longrange scope for $1199. To replace the scope it is around $800.00+ which made it a really good deal. Shoots great. Hate to admit it, but they shoot better than my 30-06 husqvarna and I love my husqy alot.

I have one in 30-06 in mint condition, they are incredibly accurate rifles with 150 and 165 grain Hornady bullets it will shoot 1" or less at 200 meters. I never use it for hunting so have listed it on EE for $1000 but have had limited interest I will have to lower my asking price. I can't believe these go for the same dollars as north American built rifles, they are superior in every way.

I have a 270 WIN synthetic stock bought for my son and a 300 WM with a wood stock. My goto gun is a Husqvarna 30-06 from the 70's however I love the way the shr 970's handle and shoot.

I have one on the way. It's the STR 970 tactical with Mcmillian stock.

The only problems I see with the rifle is getting mags for it, along with not being able to find barrels for the barrel change system. Otherwise it looks to be the predecessor of the SSG3000. Which ironically also suffers from lack of mags (when you can find them they are brutally priced) and lack of barrel/calibre options.

I had one in 270 Win years ago when you could buy them new for just over $650.00 . Wish I would have kept it as it was a great rifle and did everything well.

I've read that they were an exceptional price for the quality of rifle when they hit the market here. You just proved that to be correct. That's an excellent deal!

I'm paying a premium over that. However it's 308 with a fluted 1:10 twist 22" barrel and built in muzzle brake along with Mcmillian A3 stock. It's still a heck of a deal for what appears to be a little known and very nice rifle. It also fits in to the collection with a Swiss Arms PE-90 and having a SSG3000. Mags, barrel options, relatively unknown and no support are the negatives. I wouldn't buy this as a high use target rifle. But as a fun, hopefully excellent shooting part of the collection, it just appealed to me. It's different and unique with some interesting history. Plus I understand that they are very high quality. Looking forward to checking this rifle out!

Contact Trade Ex, they had several, I bought some myself.

BTW I extensively use my Deluxe one (I have two stocks, one wood and one synthetic) in 9.3X62 and it's a great rifle. It killed moose, bear and deer. A bit heavy of a rifle but it shoots so good.

I just received mine today. It's a SHR 970 but in the target config with the fluted 308 barrel/built in muzzle brake and Mcmillian stock. Basically the STR 970 but it still says SHR on the action and barrel. What a nice rifle!!

So I brought out a SSG3000 I have that is also in the Mcmilian stock to do a direct comparison between the two. It looks like they are related. The SSG3000 continues where the SHR left off. The SSG3000 is more of a heavier tactical rifle while this SHR is a great "light" tactical rifle or target rifle. The quality is there. Quality wise, again it's there with the SSG3000. What a great overlooked/forgotten gem.

My rifle has SHR laser engraved on the bolt knob. So I'm guessing this one is post 2000 when they went form Sig arms to Swiss Arms?

I just got mine setup last night. The scope was on a SSG 3000 but looked small on that rifle. The rings I had were too high for the SHR970, fortunately I had some in my parts bin that were perfect.

Unknown if this is one of the original target/tactical rifles or put together over time into this configuration. some reports stated a number of STR rifles were shipped incorrectly labelled SHR. So maybe. Who knows. Either way I like it.

1) SHR970 in T configuration with Mcmillian stock, fluted 308 barrel with built in muzzle brake.
2) Leupold QRW quick release rings. Not sure which height, however they ended up being perfect for this scope/rifle combination
3) The rifle came with two Picitiny/Weaver scope bases installed. Unknown which brand
4) Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X50mm scope with Rapid Z 1000 reticle for 308.
5) Harris bipod I had around. It's a good match.
