Sig SSG 3000 My new toy

the ones that come through US have the synthetic stock made by Sig USA now and the barrel has a 1.11 twist the ones with McMillan stock come from Germany in a 1.12 twist. the bipod is made by G G and G it cost about $250 US a little expensive but I think its worth it check it out on their website mine is quick detachable and goes on a pic rail adaptor

Great thanks! I'll take a look at it. My bipod is a Harris 3-6 so i'm hoping the have a low option. As for the McMillan stock, I can personally attest that there is at least one with exeter stamping that came from the factory with a McMillan stock. Got it from P&D last summer. Came with a different sig branded hard case than the Patrol models as well.

You're comparing a honda civic to a Porsche.

....Not so sure I agree...

This one is not the 1750$ unit with a plastic fantastic stock. This is the $3000? unit. While good, I don't think it's a porsche, and while the Rem 700 isn't stellar, it's not a civic either. I've seen a quite a few 5R's shoot exceptionally well. Same with the SSG. So what's the difference considering you are PAYING a ton more for it. You can put the trigger, stock, barrel, etc on the 700 and be better for about the same cost.

Can you get a Honda to be a porsche? In some way yes. It won't be cheap and at the end of the day you still have a Honda, but if you want performance and it'll outperform the porsche? That's not necessarily a bad thing.

BTW, my 1980 VW Golf blew the doors off porsches in autoX.... =)

Did you stage your rifle as if you were going to shoot... in your living room?

Nice rifle. Let us know how it shoots. Lucky to have the good stock on it too.

i tool it to the range and managed to get a 5 shot group of .4 with lapua 155 grain ammo should be able to do better with reloads

Odd that they would have a different twist rate. You would think they would have the same barrel. I'm was under the impression that the plastic stick version was just a newer, cheaper version that brought the price point down with a cheaper stock.

I wonder if the German units are still being made...

something else i found out from Sig yesterday that my rifle has a 24inch barel where as the US version with the US made stock is 23.5 inch barel with a 1.11 twist

I had the first occasion to shoot my McMillan stocked one at 300 yards a while ago.

I'm not saying the next group will be the same, but they surely are shooters:

The Sig SSG 3000 is a great rifle. While I love my TRG-42 in .300WM, my SSG 3000 with the McMillan stock and 6.5x55 match barrel is quickly becoming my favorite.

Where did you get the 6.5 Barrel? How much did it run you? I've been toying with the idea of a 6.5 for a while, either Creedmor or Swiss...

Also, for the McMillan stock guys, do you know what your twist is on your factory barrel? The older ones were 1:12 and the newer ones are 1:11. Just called Sig Sauer today and they confirmed i'm 1:12...

I bought the barrel from Wolverine supplies. It is a Sauer match barrel for the STR200 and was $900. But the good news for SSG3000 owners is that Benchmark barrels have an adapter now which allows you to use a barrel of your choice or come prechambered with one of theirs :)

Yeah, I was wondering if you went with Benchmark for the adapter. Did you need to do anything else with the rifle? Magazines and bolt fit fine for 6.5? Sounds like you're very happy with your results.

I do have a barrel adapter that I sourced in Denmark and it is currently attached to a Shilen barrel in .243 Win. Nothing needed to be done for the 6.5x55. They fit and feed from the mags without issue, .30-06 rounds will fit in these mags :)
