Sig thread protector won't come off?

I just received a brand new Sig P239 Tac model. It has a threaded barrel and came with the thread protector attached. It seems to be stuck. I shot some G96 CLP into it, but after half an hour it's still stuck.

Any recommendations?

Also to be sure I am correct, I am trying to unthread it by turning the protector clockwise with the muzzle facing away from me.
 
You may need pliers/wrench or something. Yes, muzzle away from you, to loosen it-threading is reversed, therefore if you would turn it to tighten (as a regular nut) it will loosen.

So do the opposite of what you normally do to loosen a nut and it will work. That confused me we I got mine. Mine wasn't tight though.

It is steel, so don't worry about it that much. Take the barrel out and carefully loosen it up with a tool...

Muzzle pointed away, Counter Clockwise. (U tightened it, therefore it is on there really good now)

If you are nervous in forcing it I will make a video tomorrow and post it if you like. I have the P239 and love it.
 
Shoot it a bunch. Mine tends to come loose after a couple hundred rounds unless I blue locktite it. Although it's never been so tight I couldn't unscrew it without tools.

If you use tools but a cloth over it first. Vice grips would probably work best.

+1, do this ^ if can't take it off by hand.
 
Thanks for the help! Finally got it off. I tried vice grips using a patch of leather and still wouldn't budge. After I racked the slide a few times hard in anger the thread protector was completely loose. Either the racking or a combination of things knocked it loose.

I'm really loving this P239 out of the box. The DA trigger is easier and smoother than i thought. Fit and finish is fantastic compared to a Makarov I got earlier this week, and even looks a little better than my Steyr M.

I have noticed the barrel sits very low in the hole of the slide, so much so that they rub and the slide has worn the barrel's black finish away on the bottom. Is this normal? There is a large gap at the top between the slide's hole and the barrel, and no gap at the bottom where they both make contact.

Did you at least take the barrel out of the slide when you leather padded the pliers and tried to take the cap off?
If you didn't there are a few things that could have gone wrong with this job.

Perhaps you haven't seen the P239 Tac, but with the threaded barrel protector stuck on, the barrel cannot be removed from the slide.
 
But, the slide can be removed from the frame and the barrel pushed through the slide so you could clamp on the barrel itself before trying to twist the frame out of alignment!

Geez I'd hope your sig is better then your makarov and Steyr....

Is that grease/oil, discolouration, rust, or something else in the photo?
