Ok everyone help me out what is better a Sig or a Kimber. They both look great. I'm thinking adjustable sights 1911 in 45 acp. Just for punching holes than maybe IPSC. See how things go. Any help would be great.

this should hardly even be a question. dont buy a kimber unless you are only looking for a plinking/looks good in my safe gun, not for serious round counts

Things in modern 1911's that diverge from John Browning's original design that I do not care for:

1) Firing pin block safeties.

2) External extractors

NAA.

Because they are a MIM part that can break. If the external extractor breaks - good luck getting a replacement.

EGW machines a replacement extractor out bar stock... But they won't ship to Canada :(. They produced these as there is/was a high failure rate of this part.

Forged steel can break, what's your point?

Is there a higher recorded instance of MIM failures, or is it just fear of something new?

For what it's worth I've put a couple thousand rounds of .45acp through my Sig and 10's of thousands of cycles with snap caps and I have not had a part failure yet.

Yes.

That's great - you've got a good gun. I've put around 5k through my SIG XO without a problem either. But this has nothing to do with *my* gun being a good sample. There were a number of failures to the point where an aftermarket parts manufacturer saw an opportunity to offer a solution that the manufacturer did not.

In Canada it doesn't matter - we can't carry for self-defence. If your gun breaks -it's no big deal... You put it back in your safe until the replacement parts arrive.
