I've been eyeing a stainless steel X5-Comp online and I'm wondering how much better it is than a 226 Elite model. I realize the X5 is all ss construction, has SAO trigger and a couple other differences, but is it worth $900-1000 more than the Elite? Anyone have an X-Five?

Any info would be appreciated. I do see that it is highly regarded. Thanks.

You are comparing a DA/SA with a DAO. If you want a real comparaison, you should compare the P226 with the X-Five all around. The All around is basicly a P226 with a 5'' bull barrel, all made in Germany, adjustable rear sight, extended controls, recoil spring with buffer. The pistol is heavier but the slide itself is lighter than the P226. It's a real pleasure to shoot the all around.

How much better... that is hard to quantify.

If you could handle the two side-by-side you would feel the difference immediately, I don't own either. I have a friend with a 226 Elite which I have shot a number of times; and I have fondled an X-Five. While a 226 already feels high-quality, the X-Five is a large notch above that.

Some people may not care and think they are the same thing but to me its the details of the slide/parts fit and finish. Both top and bottom are made in Germany, not a mix like the other p2XX pistols.

Pretty sure that both are more accurate than a human. So that part is moot in my opinion.

The "Elite" is a beaver tail 226 with the slide serrations in the front.
The X5 is a different pistol. This brings back is HK MR223 a better AR....
Get the X5 but any problems after will be 100% you and not the gun.
Cheers
