Hi,

Newb here, but not newb to the sport :) I'm currently looking for an IPSC pistol; I competed for quite a time with my P226 and I want to go to the next level.

I'm looking for a P226 X-Five in SA/DA (Got quite used to the transition). I found 2 models that look quite interesting: X-five allround and the x-five SO (Ordered from germany). I'm calling out the X-Five allround crew here; My question is: Do the standard P226 grips fit on the X-Five allround or X-Five SO (They are quite rare)? Would my P226 Hogue extreme alumnium fit on an X-five allround?

I handled a Single action X-Five Competition (SA Only) and it was way too large for me, but the salesman told me the SA/DA version were smaller, true or false?

What division are you going for, production? Personally I think it's too heavy.

I use a P226 in Standard, I thought about getting a .40 All-Around but for half the price I put together a stainless steel P226 with a 5" Bar-Sto barrel, plus I sorted out the trigger pull and put better sights on it. Does everything the All-Around does and it's not as bulky.

But you're no longer shooting in production..

I shoot production. I don't know about the heavy factor, I admit I shoot an aluminium frame P226 but I figure I can cope with the weight difference. According to what I've seen there isn't much of a difference in size P226 vs P 226 X-Five Allround beside the extra inch of Canon/slide (It's actually less than an inch, more like 3/4 inch).

The added weight should actually help a lot with recoil imo.

I like my XFive all around for production, the added weight and longer barrel make it soft shooting and easier to make min PF. Also, the pistol is tighter than a standard P226...

I have an X-Five SO SA/DA. It uses standard P226 grips.

It is the heaviest semi handgun I own (about 3lbs), but it also the most accurate quick shooting handgun I own. (most accuate slow-fire is my Swiss Luger)

Very nice, I'm currently looking at buying a German P226 X-Five SO SA/DA with black Ilaflon finish. How do you like yours, any issues so far? I read a few reports about extractor problems...

Yeah I read a lot of those reports myself on Sigforum, it seems to share the same internal extractor as the P220ST (Which was also problematic). I don't know how many people are facing that kind of problem; it seems to be related to ammo brass casing and/or extractor tension.

Just for the records, what kind of ammunition are you shooting? Factory (American Eagles, Remington, etc..), Self Reloads, Factory Reloads (Wolf)?

I shoot everything through the gun, primarily i load aim 147 on top of 3.5gr of vv n320 lit by a cci500. But I've had no issues eating up anything from remington (115gr, 124gr leadless is the most accurate factory ammo i have tried, 147gr golden sabres), winchester (115gr valuepacks, 147gr winclean, 115gr silvertip), cci (147gr tmj), wolf, and federal (147 gr) in the forms of commercial stuff. All while running the factory braided recoil spring and minor smoothing of the feed ramp.

I have an X-Five Allround and usually keep NILL grips on it. I hand modified the original plastic ones that came with the gun and while they worked OK but didn't look all that good. I found I needed to relieve the area around the mag release because that was a problem for me before my technique improved. I have standard sized Nills on the gun now with an aluminum mag flare. They both look and feel superb. I also have a set of NILLs with a built in flare that are equally beautiful. I just bought SIG aluminums for my P-226 Equinox and they are a big improvement over the lovely but thick wood grips that come with the Equinox. I tried the flared NILLs on the P-226 and they did not work. I will try the aluminums on the X-Five now. I sent the X-Five to Bruce Gray for his full upgrade package. If you think the gun was sweet before, you should try it now. Awesome!!

Update to my last post

I just took the NILLs off my X-Five Allround and tried the aluminums I bought for my P-226. They do NOT fit. They could be made to fits with a little Dremel work but they still wouldn't be right in the beaver tail area. The standard plastic P-226 grips may do better but IMHO, if you own a Rolls Royce, you don't modify a part to save a few $$$. If you really want something better than the standard AR grips, try NILLs. Expensive but Rolls Royce quality and beauty. With or with out the mag extension they look and feel great. If you want the flare but don't what to go to the expensive of buying the aluminum one, spend a little more and get the NILLs with the flare. They feel subtlety different but they will catch eyes and feel wonderful in the hand. Bruce gray is also not cheap but the man is a wizard with SIG's and a great guy to talk with even for a few minutes such as I have on a few occasions. This man is not just an expert smith but also a shooting guru in my opinion and has put a mind boggling amount of thought into our sport and the tools we use.

There has been no reported problems from an X-Five SO.

The reported problems seem to be confined to a single thread about X-Five Allrounds in Jan.-Feb. on the SIG board. There is no other evidence on the board to suggest an on-going issue. I'm guessing a bad batch of extractor springs on a shipment of X-five allrounds sent to the States. Either that or people aren't lubing up their sigs like they should be.

I have never had any failure of any kind, and I've been using hot factory and light reloads. I've also never cleaned it :D

I have th X-Five Allround and have never had a problem with the extractor and I have in my ignorance probably abused it. But no longer do so and my mistakes were of the newby sort. The internal extractor does look delicate. I recent bought a spare while in the US in case I have problems. Bruce Gray of Grayguns tells me that they are developing an improved part. As for now I have the spare and my original part is performing flawlessly. I'm sure that the design requires very careful manufacturing standards because of the design and its vulnerability to the kind of abuse I inflicted for a while.

I think that is false

If you want to go to the next level, why not buy an X-5 Comp or an L1, S/A in 40 cal and shoot standard? You could always eventually upgrade your L1 or Comp to an Open gun by spending a few $$$. Keep your regular P226 for Production and choose the gun you want the day of the match by assessing the competition around you in shooters. This would give you more options for the matches you don't need to anouce in advance which division you plan on shooting. If I was going to spend the $$ on an X-5, I would definetly go with at least the Comp in 40 cal. which is cheaper than the L1.

Most of the standard 226 parts will fit the X5 allround. Ive got Hogue grips on mine. The exception is some of the slide parts due to the longer barrel. Never had any kind of problems with my Allround.

BTW ...its posted in the ee.
