I'm pretty sure its classed for standard devision. What I'm wondering is:

Anybody have experience shooting it? Good choice?

Where do I get the extra mags? do regular .226 mags work in it?

Holster? CR Speed or other?

Should get it in the next month or so and I'm not sure if its the best option for IPSC
Thanks
Carl

I am not 100% positive, but if this is the magwell version, you want the mags with the longer basepads. Holster could be Bladetech DOH, or CR Speed, or Ghost..etc..

For the money it isn't your best option, a STI Edge or Eagle in .40 is nearly $1000 less from some quick searching I did. So for $3000 you could have the a competitive gun, mags and belt rig...or just the gun.
That being said the Sig is a fine pistol and I'm sure you would enjoy it. Get a Bladetech holster. CR or DAA belt and some pouches and go to town.

inside canada the only down side is the price, outside canada you"re going to be giving up capacity to masses, S_I's, Para's, Caspians, Tan's

Yes it would be a Standard Div. gun. (SA, Magwell) The basepads come just right from the factory. PH racing is correct with the STI Edge. However, the X-5 L1 is IMHO underrated and can be modified as an open gun and go head to head with an STI. However, for about $1000 less, you could have gotten the Competion model which is the same as the L1 but without adjustable trigger and nil grips. The Competition model comes with a perfect 4lbs trigger pull right out of the box, and garranteed under 2" grouping at 50 feet.

Cons: X5 hard to get parts, repair, cost

Pos: Very accurate, designed for standard IPSC out of the box.:yingyang:

I paid 2200$ for it new in box on sale at KTP in maine this summer. I'm just waiting for it to make its way up here. If the only drawback is the price then I guess its a good choice. The only problem seems to be finding mags for it. I havent seen any X5 mags for sale anywhere. so if anybody can tell who has them, I'd be set.

Thanks a lot for taking the time

That's a good price. You simply need to get in touch with a Canadian Sig dealer and have them order through R. Nicholls FN Sport. They are the Canadian Sig distributor. The only Sig dealers in Canada that don't go through R. Nicholls FN Sport are the ones that deal directly with their sister company in the USA. They are Sig dealers on this site CGN. The mags could take some time to get, but if you order them now, you should be able to get them for next season's IPSC schedule. Be carefull though, some dealers will refuse to sell mags to you if they hold more than 10 rounds. As long as they fix or pin them properly so you can take them appart easily and put them back together without damaging the followers, it's OK. You will need to take them appart frequently for IPSC competition, so make sure they at fixed to accomodate frequent disassembly.

and if the gun is SUPPOSED to come with the longer base pad mags,,,,as would the mags with magwells,...then it should come that way. NOT with the #####ed mags. I heard of a few dealers selling the guns with regular 10rd mags, and then selling the PROPER mags (IE: SIG blackwater tactical mags) for $$,...because they pinned them.

You took the words right out of my mouth Mo;) I don't deal with dealers like that anymore:HR:

Mo's right, make sure you get the real X-5L1 mags that come with it from the factory.

Just for the record... there were a few X-5's sold to dealers by *cough cough* one of the biggest Canadian SIG distributors that unfortunately arrived at said dealers with standard SIG mags. I know of a few X-Five's (including my personal one) that were affected. This was in no way the individual dealers fault. The responsibility falls entirely on the distributor. It would seem the pistols arrived before the mags and in the interest of getting the pistols to dealers and consumer's regular mags were substituted. If we want to blame anyone, let's blame the government for import restrictions and laws.

And Carl... there were a few X-Five mags for sale at CRAFM a while back, not sure if they are still around though. They are fairly easy to get, though very expensive. Around $150 each if I recall.

We (I) was not referring to your business,...I was referring to an importer, as some of the guns were directly from the USA- sans distributor.

No worries Mo! I certainly did not think that!

I was just trying to explain that even though some dealers got a bad rap... it was not at all their fault.

Perhaps, however like Mo said there are Canadian dealers importing from the US themselves and substituting mags but not all i.e. Blackwater Tactical, Tactical Operations with 3 10rd mags and 1 20rd mag pinned at 10rd.:bsFlag:

I'd go look around on some US webpages. I cant see them pinning mags in California, or any of the other 10 round states. Then get the part number and make a few phone calls...Personally I wouldn't want to rely on one thats been pinned or welded in some motel room then mailed up here...besides how would you clean the pinned ones?

Exactly, these come welded from the Canadian dealer and are not pinned or welded in the US. And yes, it makes almost impossible to take appart for cleaning without damaging the follower:redface:

I was assured by the importer that I would get the factory X5mags. Now how they are pinned to 10 rounds , I cant tell.

Hi Cam Its been a while. Do you still work at the same place? dont have time to get there as often as I did.

All of my Sig mags, including the ones that came with my X5 Allround, are by design 10round mags. The base is longer and the mag tube is shorter so that they can only hold 10 rounds. There is no after market blocking required.

I don't think the X5 Allround has the same mags as the L1 or the Competion as they both have the Magwell where the Tactical and Allround versions come without magwell. With the magwell, you need the extended basepad on your mags in order to control your mags during IPSC competiton Standard or Open division. The Allround is designed for Production division with it's DA/SA.

Nontheless, the All Around comes with all steel "hi-cap" magazines as standard in the USA. As stated it is designed for competition, therefore it would be ridiculous for it to come from the factory with 10 rounders. It's easier for Canadian importers to import the guns without mags or simply replace the prohib mags with legal 10 rounders than incur the labour costs of pinning. Those of you that got SIG OEM all steel 10 rounders were lucky. The unlucky ones are the ones who got (and are still getting) the 10 round (Sig branded) Mec-Gars with the plastic mag base that shatters into pieces when it hits a concrete floor that is typical in IPSC indoor matches...

Carl, PM sent.

OK, how can we Canadians get the SIG OEM all steel 10 rounders full lenth with extended basepad for the magwell models like the X-5 and Blackwater Tactical and Tactical Operation? I was under the impression that all sig mags were made by Mec-Gars but recently chaged to another company like the Tactical Operation model.
