I've been throwing around the idea of getting a X5 in 40. Any one out there that has one? Allround or tac model maybe. Thoughts on SAO vs SA/DA. The pistol just melts into my hand. Lots of cash, but you only live once, right?

funny, cuz the one that wolverine lists as their tact model isnt even on the SigSauer website!?!?!?!

I callled them a bit ago when I was going to buy the Tac model from them but it wasnt SAO and didnt have the ambi thumb saftey, I think it is an allround with a TAC slide put on, even Wolfgang was a little taken back by this.

Get the SAO. Trigger is so fvcking amazing. Almost like a 1911. If you have shot a SA/DA Sig before then it is almost the same on an X5.

X-Five

I have a SIG X-Five Allround in 40. This is a DA/SA gun and the triggers were very good out of the box. I've played with grips and fitted a pair of NILLs as one of my grip options. The X-Five is a big and heavy gun that has advantages as it's a soft shooter for a 40 and returns to POA very quickly.

The performance of my gun was improved by a trip to Grayguns for their "Lightning" workover. Part of that involved installing a Dawson fiber optic sight which I have found to be good. The trigger action is now superb with a very manageable DA and a super SA. If you leave the gun "stock" you can shoot in IPSC Production Division. The external changes to my gun put me in Standard which is OK by me.

No matter which of the X-Five series you choose, you are getting a top-tier pistol. It happens to look pretty good and you can see by the picture of mine if that matters to you.

That would most likely be a P226 X-Five SL-SO.

It's available in either SA or DA/SA, all steel and black Ilaflon finish...

I have shot many many rounds through an x5 tactical and it is currently my favorite pistol. However I am waiting currently on an SV infinity which I have also shot and am extremely impressed with. I have SAO on my X5 and it is perfect. I will say this though... if you plan on shooting it alot a rebuild on the parts will cost you both time (months) and Money because half the parts come from sig US and half from Germany. I didn't have to replace the parts because of accuracy but reliability.

Depends.. What is your level teardown knowledge on the firearm. It's a little tricky to get the little safety levers back in :)
I would suggest ordering parts as a "set" like all good pistols they are hand fit... Meaning if you only replace one part you may end up with some play that you do not want. I found this when I serviced 5 of them and tried to get away with only replacing parts that seemed to wear. Reliability suffered greatly. Changed everything now they work great.
