SIG220 in .45 who shoots one?

Yes! I do!

Bought one from a friend after he registered all his guns to me (temporarily) and decided to put it up for sale. After a while, I just couldn't stand it anymore and asked him if he would sell it to me.
I got the gun in its original box with all the papers (yes, even the little test target with the inspector's signature) and 12  almost unused mags. At the price I got it, I consider it as a gift from my friend.
Made in Germany. Don't know the year of manufacture. Is there a way of finding it?
It is a great combat gun, excellent grips and very dependable. Fit and finish are exceptional, like many SIG products.
It has a snappier recoil than an all-steel 1911, due to the alloy frame and heavy slide/ 4 1/2" barrel on top but nothing to be bothered of. Center of gravity is a bit higher in the hand than the 1911, too.
I would like to see one with a 5" barrel and slide, just to see how it behaves.
But all in all, a very nice pistol.
Maybe I'll put adjustable target sights on it when I find where and who sells something that equals that gun's quality standards.
I'm also looking for a competition holster for it.
Any hints?

My 220 is a 38 super. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but it feels like it should be a good one. I'm just not that thrilled about the bottom mag release though.

Look at the front bottom of the slide. There should be proofmarks there with two letters. The two letters tell you the year the pistol was made/proofmarked.

SIG-Proofmark letters.

A 0
B 1
C 2
D 3
E 4
F 5
G 6
H 7
J 8
K 9

Here's a pic of mine. The proofmark is JE which means it was made/proofmarked in 1984.

Thanks Misfire! mine was manufactured in 1993, judging by the letters. :D

Hey mine is a 84 also, I will assume yours is also West German marked slide with heal release mag? Most accurate restricted I own and likely the last gun I would ever sell.

P220's

Have 2! P220 Combat and 9mm, both are great shooters! But as previously stated..............horid price on mags.......$67.00 per mag for my 9mm.

:) It sure is....I don't mind the heel release. Mine has been very accurate and reliable as well.

...and now in nickel.

My 1994 German, nickel slide, .45ACP P220 came in its original box with a nifty target: 0.6" group  Shoots like it's loaded with +p 9mm.

Hey PerversPépère,

Here is how you determine built date on Sigs:

Date Proof Letters

A - 0
B - 1
C - 2
D - 3
E - 4
F - 5
G - 6
H - 7
J - 8
K - 9

So for example, JK = 89, or 1989built date.

I have a German version with heel mag release. It is branded "Browning". I like the trigger and sights. It is accurate and handles well.

For a carry pistol, it would be perfect. Aluminum frame is light to carry. For pure shooting, I would prefer a steel frame.

I would rank it in my top 10 favorite pistols.

Wouldn't that be JK=89 or 1989, where J=8 and K=9. Or are they reversed?
