Sig522lr

Mark,

I know it is a long process, but any news or light at the end of the tunnel?

It's not a long process... the process should not take more than a few days or weeks at most. The fact that we submitted this classification request in writing back in January... the fact that as of today there is still not an FRT # in the system for this firearm... the fact that there has been no official response to our repeated requests and inquiries... these facts make the conclusion rather obvious...

It would "appear" that the "RCMP/CFC/FRT Section" have chosen not to make official their decision on this firearm... or to make a decision at all. While it is their responsibility to classify firearms, there is nothing in the legislation that specifies the time-period that this must be done in or the method/procedures used to make such determination. I guess in theory they can take "forever" to issue their classification decision and in the meantime the firearm cannot be imported/registered/sold.

DFAIT refuses to issue the IIC for these firearms without RCMP/CFC determining their classification. RCMP/CFC simply states that 'we're working on it'... in the meantime we're now into the fourth month since we started the process.

As a comparison, we have had other firearms "classified" and FRT numbers issued in a matter of days... so this long wait on the 522 is not normal.

Have you tried contacting Peter Van Loan?

This isn't acceptable for a government agency.

Think about what you're suggesting... in the real world actions have consequences.

We have to work with these agencies and people on a daily basis... causing waves and filing "complaints" are a LAST RESORT and only something you consider when all else fails and the consequences are unavoidable.

We can't afford to complain... not if we want to continue to operate our business... that's how it is in the real world.

Fair enough. You don't want "special treatment". Though, that's what they are giving these rifles.

The GSG-5 was advertised and promoted by the manufacturer (right at the SHOT Show when it was unveiled) as being an MP-5 variant. They called it an MP5 in .22 caliber. That's how they marketed it so there was no real choice other than to classify it as a variant here... they did it to themselves.

If you're going to quote statements then quote the entire statement I made... wherein I said that appearance is similar and on that basis they may well still classify the 522 as a variant.

Discussing this is stupid and I now regret even responding. The more people comment on here the more ammunition that is being given to CFC to perhaps decide in an unfavorable way. This is best left alone until they reach a decision.

Mark

the man knows what he's talking about and I agree, now if you can get them for the price you qouted that will be awesome. Those things will sell like crack pipes in a ummmm--crackhouse.

I'll take one for sure

Actually Mark, it's perfectly normal: they're stalling in order to find something to justify classifying the firearm as a prohibited variant or some other such nonsense.
