what gun would you choose and why ? going to be used or heavy metal division in 3 gun and being able to reach out and touch those 300yd targets.

personal opinion is the sig looks to be a good value, Magpul furniture, troy buis and pistol driven vs the bushmaster moe with the cheaper magpull furniture, and plastic magpul buis. the price difference is easily made up with the more expensive parts and quality componets.

so tell me which way you would go .... probably just going to shoot norc. 308 thru it anyway.

I was G2G with getting the SIG and I found out that there were some "carrier tilt" issues? I've changed my mind and have decided on the Colt 901, now that's just me. Here's a quote from another forum that I "hang my hat at".

I looked at the Colt and briefly at the Sig. Working at a store/range, you get to see a lot of what can and does go wrong. I saw a dude's 716 where the carrier tilt was so bad he had huge gouges in the shelf of his lower receiver. That and the weight kept me away from the Sig

I'm working on getting some pics from buddy.

Do you mind tell me where to source the colt 901?

Of the two options listed and for the intended purpose I'd go with the Sig.

I'm generally not a fan of piston AR rifles but short of the HK and maybe PWS it seems to be one of the better ones at an affordable price.

I like the ambi mag release and overall quality looks good. Handguard looks decent, Magpul grip is a nice plus and the A frame stock is a perfect choice. It looks like a nice rifle and I have heard good things about it. For cheap plinking ammo the piston might be an advantage and you don't need or want a SS barrel for that type of shooting.

I looked into the carrier tilt issues. It appears SIG is on Gen2 now. The changed the lower where the buffer tube and carrier meet. Looks very good now. Also comes standard with H2 buffer now. One more upgrade is the bolt. They went KAC/LMT style with a second extractor which is a good idea on the 16" and less carbines. Reliable extraction without over gassing. Make sure to get a Gen2 version.

I'll be waiting for an ADCOR before going to a piston 308 but I have to say I am liking what I'm seeing with the second gen SIG. I'm even temped.

I'd also consider some JP springs for the trigger as the base trigger for the SIG is over seven pounds. Cheapest trigger upgrade around.

I would pass on the Colt 901. In my experience something that tries to do it all usually excells at nothing. The last thing I would want is to convert it to an AR-15. Heavy lower for an AR15. Also your stuck using propriety uppers. As for an AR10, some of the design features to make it convert to an AR15 are going to compromise the 308 design. Smaller BCG etc.

The LMT was the only changeable system I've ever bought. Only because they were smoking deals at the time and I wanted SS barrels with the monolithic uppers. In reality I don't plan on changing the barrels around. It's nice I can but in reality you're likely not going to bother once it's set up. I fear the Colt offers all these options that you'll pay big money for but in reality won't use once your rifle is setup.

Just something to consider.

Also your stuck using propriety uppers.

Once you have the "mag block" it can use any AR 15 upper. It's a 1/2 MOA rifle. The only real complaint is that the mag block doesn't come with the rifle.

I went with the S&W M&P 10.

Just got it today actually. Very nice with the FULL! Ambi-controls.

Far better than the Bushy MOE. :)

I liked the look of those as well. Plus the 5R T/C barrel. Didn't like the non threaded end, handguard and gas block. But for the price minor changes could make it a pretty good rifle at a very good price. The ambi lower is a nice touch.

They pretty much all are 1/2 moa with a good SS barrel and trigger. I look forward to seeing the complete costs and what it's like for those who've owned one for a while.

I still think it's a gimick and will be expensive. But we will see.

Well I wasn't too convinced on the Colt, I read the review in SWAT magazine and it came in second for "likability" to the to the LMT MWS(top choice). It's on the bottom of the pricing scale, coming in at $2100-$2400.The amibi controls and fit & finish were excellent, the larger magwell was liked as it was easier for 5.56 mags to be inserted according to users. Most owners expected the mag block to come with the rifle, however I think at the time they were shipping to LE/MIL customers only. You can now buy them online for $300 all in, not cheap. The uppers "change out" fast and easily. I think that I may be able to reduce one of my lowers at some point. Having a 5.556 & 7.62 lower together in my range bag is of personal relevance, certainly not an "advantage" or "necessity". The next big price jump is the LMT to $3400 and it's also heavier, after that it's the KAC "koolaid"

The final chapter won't be written on the Colt until more hit the market, and there is some "side by side" testing. To date though what I've read from owners is positive. The Colt brand carries alot of weight, there reputation on the line, and it appears that the rifle is a success. YMMV.

You might get your wish sooner rather than later :p

You have my attention!! I'll be keeping a look out for a 308 ADCOR. Although I really don't need another semi auto 30 cal, I would be interested in a 16" 308 ADCOR. My experience with the 5.56/223 products vs 7.62x51/7.62 has been the AR10 style is usually the flag ship and even nicer.

One thing they will have to do though is come up with an excellent full ambi lower. The stuff ADCOR users here put together for their uppers beat the crap out of the plain Jane lowers ADCOR had. Really makes the carbine perfect. They need this for the 308. From the leaks back in 2011 I might luck out and the LMT mws lower might work. That would be perfect.
