would any of you consider hunting with one? the pea bouncing around in my skull is telling me it might be kinda fun and very compact to carry one of these around during hunting season (and yes i do have better options sitting in the safe) however i'm thinking this might be something different and fun to play with. i'm not an avid shooter or range member so i feel like i have to make my purchases justified around the hunting aspect side of things. i was thinking a full stock is in order and i have heard about the shooting high issue with factory sights which seems to be fixed fairly easy...and in 45 colt because i do hand load and can make some P+ loads. thoughts?

I love mine. Pure fun, great tool, cool factor of 'Wanted : Dead or Alive" +10.

i hear ya Coho...and your not helping any by putting out some really nice holsters for them (yes i've seen the pics)! if i do end up with one you will be the first to know...mo money mo money! very nice leather work btw, stick with it...it seems like your on to something ;)

When I get around to it, I'm going to by one in 45 Colt, and hunt with it. It's the closest thing Canadians can get to handgun hunting, and I want to try it out. I'll get some better sights for it, and then I plan to try out similar loads that I use in my 45 COlt 94 Trapper with 300gr XTP bullets. I'll also try some reduced loads and maybe even shot loads for grouse, but I doubt the shot loads would pattern well for anything past 10 feet.

I don't intend to put a full stock on it, ever. I'll practice with it until I am confident in my ability with it.

I have the 45 version . The factory ammo are really tame but I am getting reloading equipment to get it to 44 mag levels. One thing mine shoots really high even with the rear sight wedge gone. But first thing to buy for me is the holster, then worry about the sights later.Right now i might take a hacksaw and jeweler file to it.Even with the point of aim quirck the gun is so fun to shoot and cant forget the cool factor .

I took mine hunting this fall. As long as your confident that you'll hit where you want too, why not?

I've got a 44 mag one that I put a full stock on and changed the back sight to a lower one. It is one of the most fun guns to shoot I own. It's surprisingly accurate and will absolutely be on my back (hopefully with some kind of coho back scabbard creation;) ) next hunting season. .44 mag is more than tough enough to drop whatever game you're looking at getting. People have been hunting with that round for a very long time.

I personally found that without the full stock it was kind of useless. The recoil, sights etc were just a pain in the butt after a while after shooting it a bunch. Even with the full stock on, it's only about 3 or 4 inches longer, and is worlds more fun IMO to shoot.
I say go for it, they're reeeallly fun guns to shoot with.

My 44 comes in at 28 1/2 inches with a lop of 12 1/4 in. Haven't got out to shoot with the full length and Skinner sight yet, too cold here. In the stock configuration they are a novelty, done up right, very practical. Gopherit

I was thinking of hunting with one too but I was wondering what the range of the 44 mag or 45 colt would be to take down a deer?

I would say no unless I added a full stock to it then I would because its hard to aim that sucker at anything at somewhat of a distance.

44 mag and 45 lc could take down a deer out to 100 yards with a ranch hand the question is how well you can make that shot at that distance depends on the shooter Its all about a humaine kill.

It is a different kind of gun and so one has to spend some time learning how to shoot it (once the sights are replaced). Just as a regular handgun is different and harder to shoot accurately at first, you get better with practice.

Many people hunt with bow and cross-bows. Once you have practiced with a ranch handgun you will be somewhat more effective than a bow hunter.

I've got the sights sorted out on mine, and came very close to hunting with it this past season, although I wound up using other rifles (this was my first year hunting deer with rifles in over a decade, so I was like a kid in a candy store...different gun every day!). I am printing 4 to 5 inch groups with it and wouldn't hesitate to take a deer at that range with it now(.44mag). Having said that, there's no doubt that a full stock would make it easier to shoot, and I'll probably go that way...eventually. Right now, it's still way too much fun to shoot as is.

I'm enjoying it so much, I'm actually thinking of getting a second so I can keep one as a "handgun".:)
