I recently picked up a couple Pre'64 Model 70's and I want to put a receiver sight on the 1950 version.....is there one that mounts on top using the rear scope base holes?...I won't use the side mount holes if I have to remove wood.....
I am pretty sure Warne used to make their premier bases for the model 70's with an optional "pop - up" peep. Might be able to find one with a little digging.
williams makes one. They're aluminum and fairly inexpensive.
The newer (by newer i mean sometime after WW2) Lyman and Redfields did not need the stock to be notched. I have a couple steel ones in varying condition if you want to try one. PM me.
Not sure it meets your needs Rick, but Redfield used to make a one piece scope base with a pop up peep sight at the rear that just attached to the receiver using the top screw holes. - dan
