"Sight Mount" for Red dot or reflex

"Sight Mount" at http://www.sight-mount.com has an interesting looking red dot/reflex sight mount for various pistols including my M&P. The mount replaces the rear dovetail sight with a piece that allows you to mount any optic that uses a picatinny mount. Unlike some other pistol optic mounts that replace the rear sight and allow only the optic sight e.g. EGW, the Sight Mount has an integral rear sight (a two dot in the case of the M&P) that can be used when you don't have an optic mounted.

After it is slid into the existing rear dovetail on your slide, you tighten and lock-tite two screws. There is also a third hole provided at the forward end so that you can (if you want) have your slide drilled and tapped for a third mounting screw (supplied).

Sight Mount for my M&P costs (all figures in USD): $85 + $5 shipping + $7.50 extra international shipping = $97.50 USD.

The EGW mounts are about half the price but allow only specific, higher end, optics to be mounted. The Sight Mount allows you to mount anything that uses a picatinny rail.

I'll try to include a picture of the Sight Mount on an M&P taken from their website.

Has anyone had any experience with the "Sight Mount" optic mount, good or bad?

I had looked at this sight on their website and it looked like a good idea.
Decided against though because as already said, it seems to mount the red dot very high
and also what if the open sight feature is not hitting POA. No real way to adjust it.
There are other mounts that go in the dovetail & the red dot mounts right to it.
Much lower.

Good point on hitting POA. I would hope the height of the rear sight replacement would be exactly the same as the stock sight it replaces, but it looks like there is no way to adjust it left or right. I'll email them so see what they say about that.

I had a closer look at it. The whole mount can be tapped left or right, just like the stock rear sight on my M&P, because it slides into the dovetail on the slide. So presumably one would sight in the iron sights in the normal way then lock it down using the two screws (versus the single 1/16th" set screw now on my M&P). At that point (if you wanted to) the third screw could be drilled and tapped into your slide, thereby fixing your sight on your original POA.

The Mount you are looking at would give you the choice, Nice.
I have had great luck the last few years with my Burris Fastfire 3, knock on wood. It is mounted to a Weaver rail on my S&W Model 41.
I do not consider it a cheap red dot, but it's not an Aimpoint. $375 to $400 is only cheap if you have Thousands in disposable income.
It could be too high. I never noticed. I was too busy enjoying the setup.
If you like the mount, then go for it.

I too have a S&W model 41, and a Model 15-2 38 with 6" barrel, but with stock sights. I'm starting to have to make the choice between being able to focus on target or front sight but not both. I've borrowed other's pistols with red dot sights and it solves the issue for me, hence my interest in the Sight Mount for my M&P 9. I'd love to find someone who has actually mounted the Sight Mount on theirs.

The red dots can be detached from the slide with a screwdriver...? Unless you have a picatinny QD mount on the red dot, you will also need a screwdriver to remove?

You're over thinking on this issue.
