Okay,

I have 2 1911 handguns on the way. Norinco 1911-Government, and a GSG.

Where can I find the appropriate info to identify what type of sight mount each has so that I can browse replacement sights now as I await the order?

Thanks all

You might have real trouble finding sights to fit those dovetail cuts. The Norinco slides are famous for having non-standard dovetails sizes, and I don't know anything about the GSG dovetail dimensions.

The retailer for your new pistols should be able to provide precise dovetail dimensions. Which model of Norinco are you getting? There is some variation in the sights that come as stock on those pistols.

The vast majority of aftermarket 1911 sights are based on a Novak or Bomar pattern rear, which require serious milling of the slide. You might try fitting a GI-pattern (or National Match) rear sight. But the only way to be sure if a sight will fit is to remove the existing sights and measure them. Then you've got the issue of finding a front sight of the right height to match the rear. If you've got a staked front sight on your 1911, then you have additional concerns, as the staking process is not as simple as drifting in/out dovetails.

The Norinco is the Government model from CanAmmo's deal

Then I'm 95% sure that you've got a staked front sight and something resembling GI-spec rear. I've got one on order myself!

Personally, I'm going to leave front sight as it is, because it looks like a lot of work trying to restake a new one. The rear, I might replace with a national match style one like the one from 10-8. I have no idea how close the dovetail cut will be, but if the slide dovetail is undersize it should be possible to reduce the dovetail dimensions on the sight to get it to fit.

Anybody here know the actual dovetail dimensions on this latest batch of Govt models from CanAm?
