My buddy is having difficulty with the traditional semi Buckhorn rear sight on his pre 64 Winchester
I suggested call in skinner sights to see what they have but came here to see about other options for an old lever gun top eject
He doesn't want a scope but just an improvement to the factory Buckhorn rear

The older all steel Lyman receiver sight would be a perfect "period" sight for that rifle. The steel ones are getting a bit expensive as the new Lyman equivalent is now made of alloy. The newer ones work fine as well as the Williams FP. I put a Lyman on my 1950 Marlin waffle top. You wont be disappointed with either one of these sights, but it is nice to have an older sight on an older rifle.

Should be noted that the earlier pre64 M94s were not factory drilled for a side mount rec. sight.

His rifle isn't drilled and tapped for a side mount I just figured a scope would be offered as a solution

The holes I was referring to are not the same as a side mount scope mount.

In the pic they are the two holes over the saddle ring at the top RH corner of the side of the receiver. Older 94s don't have them but they can be drilled by your local blacksmith.

I don't know if it can be made to work on the 94, but I sure do like the Lyman 56 that's on my Model 71 Foster Rifle. That would be my inclination rather than a scope.

Ahh I misread your earlier comment. Sorry

How about this for old eyes. I'm thinking about it.

The model number of the Lyman aperture sight that fits a Model 94 Winchester rifle is, Lyman, Model 94!

I'm going to edit this, to state that the Model 94, that fits the Winchester, also fits the Marlin Model 336, that have the two factory made holes on the side of the receiver.
