I have a M38 CG, receiver dated 1917. So this rifle was retrofitted to the M38configuration, but still retains the straight bolt handle, this to me is not uncommon but like Badger Dog says they changed the rear sight to accommodate the ballistics of the m41 cartridge. But strangely my m38 still has the old M96 rear sight. I wonder how that happened, I mean they cut the barrel down to m38 length but left the old sight. Actually I may have just answered my own question. Sometimes they left the old sight and put a range plate on the butt.. No range plate but the stock was refinished. So maybe it went missing.
One thing for sure though, this particular rifle (my 3rd Swede) is a SHOOTER..
