So what's the prefered sighting in range for a 14" AR I'm using a non magnified red dot ( ok it's a cheep POS but It"ll do for now) I want to do some more TAC shoots so I sighted it in at about 25 yrd with good groups then shot some at 50 yrd and was 12" high, what am i doing wrong here ? at that range I whould'nt think there would be that much difference, any thoughts ? Thanks
Spanner.

For most applications a 50 yard zero is ideal. This zero facilitates a "point and pull" capability out to 250 yards. You won't achieve benchrest groups but you'll easily make hits on a silhouette out to 250 with zero hold over. The maximum ordinate(highest point the projectile will be above the boreline) is in the neighbourhood of 3 inches. Look up Improved battle sight zero on google its there.

I really recommend the "Improved Battle Sight Zero" as well. I originally sighted my AR at 25 yards and was disappointed with the results. Low at 25 yards, high at 50 and totally off the paper at 100!! A post here led me to look into the "Improved Battle Sight Zero" and use this method. I am extremely pleased with the results. FWIW, I have a 16" Bushmaster and shoot with the detachable carry handle's iron sights. Here's the link I used. Good luck!!
