If you sandbag the crap out of the bench, you can often get the gun high enough so that you're sitting straight up and down, almost as good as standing for absorbing the recoil.

That's exactly what I do!

Also, don't forget to position the scope as far forward in the rings as possible, with proper focus of course.

if your scared of the recoil get yourself a lead sled... they work great for sighting in the big ones....

That is so important, if your worried about this, you will pull back before the trigger is pulled and mess up the shot. Or take one in the forhead and look like an ....

Welcome to big bores. Theres no tricks here. Big guns kick. You must sit upright at the bench, get as vertical as you can. Get a PAST recoil pad for under your jacket. Block out what you know is comeing and control your sight picture/trigger. Wait till you try something with recoil.

Why don't get a homemade sandbag, set up the gun on the bench and put the sandbag between your shoulder and gun?

It will be uncomfortable but should do the sighing in.
