Sighting in my XCR-L today

You will have some better luck with match ammo on the Tikka. Mine (very similar to yours, Ezesport - only the scope mount is different) shoots about MOA with it.

With a good handload, I can shoot pretty regularly to a quarter minute - note I usually settle for 3 shot groups when working up loads. The Sierra 69gn Match Kings with 26gn Varget and 80gn SMK with 23.9gn Varget (over Sierra's recommended max) both work for me. Work your way up to max loads.

Had my 5.56 XCR-l Keymod out today.(finally had to start wearing eyeglasses, so lots of scope focus/recheck zero/cheek weld, etc)

Using bipod and rear bag(prone/sock & popcorn) was getting 2" with Factory Hornady 55 Vmax, 3 shot groups with 1.75-5 Burris, 100 meter
Same setup and distance using factory Federal 50 JHP was getting 1 1/2" 3 shot groups.

Canted over to the Burris Reflex(first strike) and was still getting 1 1/2" 3 shot groups @ 100m with only a slightly higher POI.

Me or the FGMM 69 SMK sucked @ 100m to the tune of about 5" three shot groups. So bad that I didn't try the reflex sight.

Pulled the bipod and shot 4-6" dia rocks on a hill 100m away, seated with both the scope and the reflex sight to finish up the day. I swear, I believe I shoot better(more accurately) sitting and holding the handguard than prone with rear bag. I would guess it's the viewing angle thru the new eyeglasses lenses(progressives)

No issues with function from gun or Pmag/stock mag. I am very pleased with the Keymod light barrel so far.

try the 53 g vmax superformance , they'll do better than the 55g . There's been a few people who has found them better.

Thanks, I saw where that has been mentioned a few times(or at least a 53 vmax, not sure if it was handload) and I will try them if I can find them locally. It may just be the sweet spot between 50 JHP and the 55 vmax.

I got good results with the factory, and hand loads ( 26.2 cfe .223).

My XCR L with the 55gr American eagle fmj's will only shoot about 2-1/2 MOA at a hundred. If I feed it nosler custom competition 60gr I have shot 5 shot groups just a hair over an inch.

Thanks for confirming my own suspicion. I have 75g Amax on order. They have a G1 BC of .435 so these might be able to reach out to 1000m. The XCR has a barrel twist of 1:9 whereas the Tikka has a 1:8. I did not think is would make that much difference but I will soon find out. Robinson Arms made some of their heavy barrel 223 with 1:7. Mine are both 1:9. Others are confirming that the XCR likes lighter pills.

The 223 FCPK I have likes the Varget and 69 SMK, wouldn't stabilize the 75 AMAX but the Hornady 75gr bthp was excellent in any kind of wind and out past 400m to 500m.

I will try the factory Hornady Superformance 53s and also some factory Nosler 60 gr.
All I have in hand currently for 223 handloads is Varget.

My tikka tac positively hated most factory loads. I too was very disappointed.
Coincidently I also had an fcp-sr as well.
Once I started loading for the tikka t, I found it liked unusually low charge weights but still gets good velocity with them. It's a bit of an anomaly.
With those loads though it is a solid half moa rifle, and my load data for berger 75 grains is just silly. Ranges from .4 down to .2 moa over an entire grain of powder. Easily on par with a sako trg, and kicks the snot out of my fcp-sr.
Berger 75 grain and vv n135, loaded close to or below starting charge weights really makes it sing.

I get what you're saying Berger.

However when someone posts up a #3 shot group (not #3 dead coyotes) and thinks it's a fair representation of their rifles capability accuracy wise; those that know better need to set them straight if only for the fact, others don't buy said rifle expecting the same accuracy capability on every shot.

Well put.
I've been burned by others wishful thinking more times than I care to count.
I bought into the sub moa sl8 (nope)
I bought into the 1.5 moa tavor (nope)
I bought into the 2 moa rfb (only one group in ten)
I bought into the 1 moa xcr-l and xcr-m (rolmfao)
The list goes on...
The only semi auto rifles that have consistently met or exceeded my expectations are mostly ar pattern rifles, if it weren't for them I might think I'm a terrible shot !
Lmt mws ss was .6 moa, noveske recon was .8 moa, dpms g2 recon was .7 moa.
Herron arms ACR conversion was an impressive .8 moa with its bartlein barrel too.
These are five round group averages, all rifles getting an extensive amount of time for load development.

One shot = 60gr V-Max

Don't need no 10 shot groups either...

I'm not a wannabe player = I'm a hunter that actually knows how to shoot.

I bought my XCR-L with uppers in 223 and 6.8spc because I wanted to shoot fast follow up shots on game animals but my problem is all the deer and coyotes I have shot with this rifle are DRT on the first shot.

So tell me how this is not perfect for my needs and that it is just good enough other than I do want to take more than one shot?

Regardless of shot group number.....

It only really counts, when it really counts, whether it's a rural armed hostage standoff at a cemetery, a competition event, or a quartering coyote.

Five shot groups are over rated in most real world practical applications, games of course, are exceptions.

I wouldn't hesitate to take a 300 yard shot on a deer and 400 + yards on a coyote with my XCR-L in 6.8SPC with my 95gr TTSX @ 2880fps loads.

What does that tell me and should tell others = my XCR-L has the accuracy to reliably/accurately kill my targets at those distances.

Making it perfect for my needs.

I'll be honest I do have a gripe about my XCR-L it doesn't come in a .452" or .458" cartridge.

Here is my finding

A day out with my XCR

A day out with my Tavor

A day out with my accurate bolt gun.

Sorry to get off topic...just saw a dead coyote get posted and thought Id share.

Cheers!!
