Sighting In Tips/Technique

Hello, All

Ok I jus got a new .50 (Steyr HS50) and i was wondering if anybody has any good tips or walkthroughs on sighting this big guy in, (50 BMG ammo is pricey I wanna avoid as much trial and error as possible) Also I was hoping someone could give me some ideas on what distance I should zero it at? Let me know any feedback would be greatly appreciated,

Start at a distance that is close to get it on paper.

I had a rifle bore sighted and started out at 100 yards. Nothing on paper. Moved to 25 yard target and just hit the top of the paper.

I was about 43 MOA high at 100 yards.........................

What distance do you have access to shoot at?

Well the previous question was, "what distance do you have access to shoot at" thats what I meant sorry, I definatly am not at that level, Im just starting my long road of questions and learning to head in that direction, I didnt mean to sound like a poser, my bad......

At under 100 yards the 50 cal bullets are barely stabilized, many times they will touch the paper and go sideways at closer ranges.
100 yards is the common site in distance, then work your way out.
Having a bore sighter may save you a few shots, but only if the brake is truly on center, few are. When I am sighting in 1 of my 50s, I use a 4x8 sheet of plywood and cover it all with butcher paper, then put a single target in the middle that way you can see your shots clearly and adjust accordingly.

We found 200 yards with our Night Force 1/8 mo adjust scope worked well with a 4x4 sheet of plywood.Then the Chev V6 got it.Engine was drained beforehand and removed afterwards,of course.

It is OK to zero at more than one range, and make a note of how many scope clicks you need at different ranges.
A barn door at 25m is a good start, of course.

Try this... 'Found it handy and a time saver when mounting a new scope on my .223... 'Don't know how well it'll work for a .50, but giver a try.

There is a range west of Red Deer that goes out to 500 yards, I understand.

Being in Red Deer, you are close to Alberta Tactical Rifle who is the main knowledge base on the 50s.

Plus we are gonna be neighbours. Sorry bout your luck.

Makes sense to me. The whole point of this forum is to exchange ideas/advice ect. If you haven't got anything of value to add to a valid question other than trying to belittle someone then don't post, it's immature.
