Sighting in

I've got the ruger 30-06 as well and love it. Accuracy is very good at 300yds (where its sighted in). I find its easier to aim low (shorter distance) then high. Thats why I went for the 300yd mark (personal prefrance), but have taken a whitetail at 600yds with it!
Just shoot often and get used to different ranges.

Sight in for around 2" high at 100, then take it out to a cut block and put some rounds in at the maximum distance you'll be shooting. If that's within 250 yards, your sight-in should be fine, but it's best to know for sure.

Should I sight in at 3 inches high?
Yes . Most articles on PBR (point blank range) recommend this setting ,for all round shooting in differing terrain....my 280 Remington (139 grain) is set for 3 1/2 inches high @ 100 yds. and I have very little trouble reaching out to 450 yds.(if I have a solid rest, if there is very little wind, if the "target" is still and in the clear.......)

Alright, I am going to be aiming for anything between 2 -3" high @ 100 yards. I will post back tomorrow with my results.

Well 32 rounds later my 30-06 is sighted in between 2-3" high @ 100 yards. Now to clean the thing. Before this coming up deer season I will "season" the barrel and should be ready to go.:D
